A 17-year-old girl, Sadhna Bhonsle, lost her life after being brutally beaten by her father for scoring low marks in a NEET mock test. The incident took place in Sangli, Maharashtra, and has sparked outrage over rising academic pressure and parental expectations.
Sadhna, a bright Class 12 student, had previously scored an impressive 92.60% in her Class 10 board exams. She was diligently preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), taking regular practice exams. However, a recent mock test score reportedly enraged her father, Dhondiram Bhonsle, a school principal.
Witnesses and police reports reveal that Sadhna’s father subjected her to verbal abuse and harsh criticism over her studies for a long time. On the day of the incident, a heated argument escalated after Sadhna responded to his taunts, saying, “Bas karo Papa. Aapke bhi to kam number aaye the. Aap kaun sa collector ban gaye?”
Enraged by her reply, Dhondiram reportedly grabbed the wooden handle of a stone grinder and repeatedly beat her in front of her mother and younger brother. Sadhna suffered serious head injuries and was rushed to Ushakal Hospital in Sangli but was declared dead upon arrival.
The girl’s mother filed a police complaint on June 22, stating that her husband’s beating directly led to their daughter’s death. Dhondiram Bhonsle has since been arrested and is currently in police custody until June 24. The case is under active investigation.
