Sikkim’s Minister for Roads and Bridges, Shri N.B. Dahal, has said that the long-awaited widening of the NH-10 Rangpo–Ranipool stretch is expected to commence by December 2026–January 2027.
Speaking in connection with the ongoing MoRTH Chintan Shivir 2026 at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, Minister Dahal said the tender process for the project is already underway, marking a significant step towards execution of the highway upgrade.
The project has an estimated tender value of ₹706.63 crore and covers approximately 25.87 km, from km 53.50 at Rangpo to km 79.371 at Ranipool. According to the official NHIDCL tender, the existing carriageway will be widened and developed into a two-lane road with paved shoulders.
The project is not limited to conventional road widening. The scope includes the construction of tunnels and viaducts, besides specialised treatment of vulnerable sliding and sinking zones along the corridor. The work is being tendered under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode.
NHIDCL issued the Notice Inviting Tender on September 30, 2026. The official tender schedule sets the bid submission deadline for November 16, 2026, with technical bids scheduled to open on November 17. The tender carries an Earnest Money Deposit of ₹7.07 crore.
Speaking to the media after the MoRTH Chintan Shivir in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, Sikkim Roads and Bridges Minister N.B. Dahal said that work on the NH-10 Rangpo–Ranipool widening project is expected to commence by December 2026–January 2027.
The Rangpo–Ranipool section is a crucial part of Sikkim’s road network, connecting the State’s main entry point at Rangpo with the Ranipool area and onward connectivity towards Gangtok.
Minister Dahal’s announcement that construction is expected to begin by December–January comes as the project moves from planning and tendering towards the execution stage.
