Why BJP’s footprint is growing in Sikkim

0
"BJP leaders interacting with local residents in Sikkim"

The Bharatiya Janata Party’s growing footprint in Sikkim is Increasing day by day, especially considering that prior to 2023, the BJP was doing the task to reach out everywhere even in rural Sikkim. The BJP’s track record in the rural only goes to show that they need long-term benefits since the regional party has always neglected rural bastions.

In the last few years, BJP has gained an Advantage in the Northeast alliance with regional parties to stay in power. Let’s talk about the 2023 assembly elections in the Northeast, the BJP has bagged a majority in Tripura and crossed the majority mark with its leading alliance partner in Nagaland. While in Meghalaya, no party has been able to cross the majority mark, the National People’s Party and the BJP combined are close to the majority mark as alliance partners.

Looking at the graphs of Northeast voter wise 2023, women have become a significant player in elections making 47% of the voting list. In Tripura, what’s noteworthy is that 19 per cent more women supported the BJP alliance than the other. This gap was just seven per cent among men. In Nagaland, women’s support for the NDPP-BJP alliance was 47 per cent, 33 per cent more than its main opponent, the Naga People’s Front.

Talking about BJP’s outreach events, BJP Sikkim doesn’t use to do big types of events before 2021, two years later, in 2023 in Sikkim, the BJP has almost Hosted event to outreach about the central scheme monthly.

There are two major reasons behind the growth of the BJP in Sikkim: the fastest development & outreach welfare schemes for women.

BJP has implemented Road to Railway projects in Sikkim giving a major boost other than this schemes for women can be a bigger boost for BJP In the 2024 election.

In recent talks with BJP Sikkim Incharge Dilip Jaiswal said that the development work and social welfare programmes seem to be major factors behind the BJP’s growth in Sikkim.

A significant number of respondents in Namchi said that they want to support BJP this time for State’s long-term benefits from government schemes. This trend was also observed in Nagaland in recent elections, where voters supported the BJP because of its development work and welfare schemes, especially the women’s welfare scheme which gained 47% of the vote share from women.

In Sikkim, BJP In-charge Dr Dilip Jaiswal has explained that a small state like Sikkim has a serious unemployment issue, he stressed creating more jobs for youngsters, more benefits for the poorer, more development of Sikkim and regulations of Jobs in three years instead of SKM’s Eight-year policy. Sikkim is a small State that can be done through central plans. The young voters and women’s support for the BJP in Sikkim is growing higher than for the other parties.

Looking at the state where political fights between SDF SKM and CAP give no priority to citizens, where poor from rural can’t able to reach out to politicians.

Additionally, new BJP president DR Thapa-led BJP has been able to change the political discourse in Sikkim. With increasing infrastructural investments in roads etc., the BJP has been able to widen its support from the people of Sikkim in the coming election.

This is what Vision Document for BJP Sikkim can be read for 2024.

Bjp Sikkim has made its first policy decision of regularizing all the ad hocs and Contractual employees who have reached three years of service.

The decision has been made with the possible way out by checking and stopping the revenue leakages which are rampant in the State of Sikkim.

Revenue leakage is the hub for corruption where the revenues paid to the government starting from the village level to the highest level been leaked to the corrupt individuals running the state.

The secondary source for salaries for regularizing ad-hoc & Contractual workers shall be the add-on 2000 crore budget which shall be given by Central Government if BJP comes to power in 2024.

Long-term temporary service is absolute exploitation of youths where 8 years is a big loss for youth as well as human resources of the country.

Hence all the ad hocs, contractual Workers, and OFOJ employees shall be regularized on a one-time regularization policy.

Thereafter, the party leadership has also decided to hold interviews of all grades yearly where at least 5000 posts shall be created and fair interviews shall be called every year for all the grades.

" SBI Youth for India helping communities "

Gangtok, May 6, 2023: Karthick Sakthivel, a Fellow of SBI Youth for India (YFI) Fellowship program (2021-2022) and Social Work and Research Centre (SWRC), Barefoot College, are working with the upper villages of Sukrabarey and Sadam of Sumbuk block, South Sikkim to redress water security by demonstrating rooftop rainwater harvesting techniques and storing seasonal spring water in schools and agricultural lands.

The poly ponds that Sakthivel demonstrated during his Fellowship can be a great tool to support the water scarcity that affects 300+ households of the villages in this region that receive rainfall around 2000 mm during monsoon but fall short of water resources for agriculture and other domestic activities in non-monsoon months of the year.

Many such grassroot projects across the country are being mobilised for local communities by SBI YFI Fellows and their partner NGOs that can self-sustain the development in those regions and empower the rural people with unique solutions for the challenges faced by them. Through various knowledge drives, awareness campaigns and project interventions, SBI YFI Fellows have been able to positively impact over 1,00,000 lives in the country, in 200+ locations.
