"Sikkim Gets New Highway Project"
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has confirmed the approval of the Melli-Singtam Greenfield route alignment, marking a major boost to Sikkim’s infrastructure development. The update was shared in an official communication addressed to Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri Prem Singh Tamang.
Congratulating the state on 50 years of statehood, Gadkari acknowledged the state’s request for an alternate highway between Melli and Singtam and noted that NHIDCL (National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd) will now be entrusted with the implementation of the project.
Gadkari highlighted NHIDCL’s established expertise in managing highways in challenging terrains. He reminded that, based on earlier recommendations, the Sevoke to Rangpo stretch of NH-10 was already handed over to NHIDCL in October 2024.
“I am happy to mention that the alignment for the Melli-Singtam Greenfield route has been approved in 2025 and NHIDCL is being entrusted with the implementation of the project,” the letter reads.
The Union Minister also urged the State Government to provide necessary support in expediting land acquisition and clearances to ensure the smooth execution of the project by NHIDCL.
