NHPC, Teesta-V Power Station, Sikkim observed World Environment Day on 5th June 2021 at its Residential Township in Balutar and Samdong Colony. As part of the observance, Shri Sanjay Darbari, Head of the Power Station, planted an Areca Palm sapling along with enthusiastic participation of officers and staff of the Power Station, in the extension of Herbal Park located near the helipad.
The event was observed by following COVID 19 guidelines. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Sanjay Darbari said that Resettinghumanity’s relationship with Nature will be the focus of World Environment Day on 5th June 2021, which also marks the launch of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, a ten-year global push to prevent, halt and reverse ecosystem degradation. Ecosystem restoration can help protect and improve livelihoods,regulate disease, reduce the risk of natural disasters and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
He further said that the symbiotic relationship between humans and other species has to be nurtured as human health is linked to the Ecosystem. The present COVID 19 Pandemic is a reminder to all of us of the consequences of human activity-induced damage to nature. He urged all participants to strive to live in harmony with Nature.
