"Tragedy in Pahalgam,26 Killed"
Deadly terror attack earlier today, 27 people—mostly tourists—lost their lives at Baisaran near Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The attackers targeted a group of non-local visitors, leaving several others critically injured. The incident has triggered nationwide outrage and mourning.
According to reports from Kashmir Dot Com, the deceased include Shalinder Kalpiya, with injured victims hailing from various states including Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Odisha. The sudden and brutal nature of the assault has raised serious concerns about the current security environment in the region.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to arrive in Srinagar shortly to personally oversee the response measures. He will be holding high-level meetings with senior officials, law enforcement agencies, and the armed forces to ensure immediate action is taken and that those behind the attack are swiftly brought to justice.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly condemned the attack, calling it a “cowardly assault on innocent civilians.” He directed the Home Ministry to act decisively and take all necessary steps to restore order and reassure the public.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also expressed profound grief and extended condolences to the victims’ families. “Targeting tourists is an unforgivable crime. We will not rest until the perpetrators are punished,” he said.
Security forces have launched a massive combing operation in the surrounding forested areas to trace the attackers. The attack has also cast a dark cloud over the tourism industry in Kashmir, which had recently shown signs of recovery after years of instability.As the nation mourns, questions are being raised over possible intelligence lapses and the timing of the attack during the peak tourist season.
