Sikkim MP Meets Union Minister, Demands Swift Action on Pakyong Airport

MP Indra Hang Subba met Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu in Parliament today, urging the immediate resumption of flights from Pakyong Airport. He highlighted the severe inconvenience faced by Sikkim’s residents and the negative impact on tourism due to prolonged flight suspensions.

During the meeting, Subba expressed frustration over SpiceJet’s delay in restarting operations despite repeated demands. He emphasized that the issue had also been raised earlier on March 1 during his discussion with Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol in Gangtok.

The MP called for a high-level meeting with key stakeholders, including SpiceJet representatives, Sikkim’s Civil Aviation Department, and ministry officials, to resolve the issue swiftly.

Union Minister Ram Mohan Naidu acknowledged the concerns and assured that the Civil Aviation Ministry would organize a stakeholder meeting soon.

Subba stressed the importance of restoring flights for better connectivity and economic growth in the state.

The delay in resuming operations has disrupted travel for residents and tourists, affecting businesses dependent on air connectivity.

He urged the government to take decisive steps to prevent further inconvenience to the people of Sikkim.

The MP reiterated his commitment to ensuring Pakyong Airport becomes fully operational again. He assured continued follow-up on the matter until flights resume without further delay.

The resumption of flights is expected to significantly boost tourism and trade in Sikkim.
