Gangtok, Dec 28 (IPR) Union Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh today virtually inaugurated 24 bridges and 3 roads which included “India’s First Indigenous CL 70 Double Line Modular Bridge & “World Highest Motorable Road at Umling La Pass.” The e-inauguration was conducted by Border Roads Organisation and was attended by Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Lt. Gen UT J&K, Chief of Army Staff, DGBR, Lt. Gen Rajeev Chaudhry, and Shri. Jitendra Singh, Ministry of Science and Technology.

The e-inauguration programme was joined by the Minister for Roads & Bridges Department, Government of Sikkim, Shri Samdup Lepcha, and officials of Roads and Bridges Department and officials of Swastik Project, BRO from the conference hall of Tashiling Secretariat, Gangtok.

The BRO during this year has constructed 102 Roads and Bridges in the country. Today 24 bridges and 3 roads were dedicated to the Nation which included the “India’s First Indigenous CL 70 Double Line Modular constructed at a height of 11000ft on road from Flaghill to Dokala in Sikkim as part of Atma Nirbhar Bharat Scheme. On the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Union Defence Minister praised the achievements of BRO to improve the infrastructure development in the border areas of the country thereby ensuring socio-economic development of the regions.

Minister Shri. Samdup Lepcha was also appreciative of the effort made by Project Swastik in Sikkim and further discussed the public requirements in terms of maintenance of existing roads. He also acknowledged the hardship faced by the BRO for constructing roads in remote areas with bad weather conditions but still persisted with giving out their best by connecting various places and bringing the positive socio-economic impact of those areas.
