Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Case: Wife Sonam Surrenders in UP, 3 Accused Arrested

The mysterious disappearance and murder of Indore tourist Raja Raghuvanshi, his wife Sonam Raghuvanshi has surrendered at Nandganj Police Station in Ghazipur district, Uttar Pradesh, late Sunday night. The surrender comes just a few days after Raja’s body was recovered from a gorge in Sohra (Cherrapunji), Meghalaya.

According to police sources, three suspects have been arrested — two from Indore, Madhya Pradesh, and one from Uttar Pradesh. Meghalaya Police, who are heading the investigation, confirmed that a fourth accused is still absconding, and search operations are actively ongoing.

The couple, who were on their honeymoon, were reported missing on May 23 after checking out of a homestay in Nongriat. On June 2, Raja’s decomposed body was recovered from a gorge near Wei Sawdong Falls. Investigators also found a machete, parts of a mobile phone, a shirt, and a raincoat at the site.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma expressed appreciation for the police team’s swift action. In a social media post, he said that a major breakthrough was achieved within a week with three assailants from Madhya Pradesh arrested, the female surrendered, and one more accused still on the run.

Meanwhile, Raja’s family has called for a CBI probe, citing suspicion of a planned murder. The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also intervened and requested a comprehensive inquiry.

Police have stated that Sonam’s confession will be key in piecing together the timeline, motive, and full details of the crime. The investigation is ongoing, and further developments are expected.
