According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), parts of the Northeast states is likely to receive rainfall with isolated thunderstorm, lightning, and hailstorm in the next 48 hours.
“Light/moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with isolated thunderstorm, lightning & hailstorm likely over western parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya on 29th & over eastern parts on 30th December 2021 and dry weather over the region thereafter,” the IMD said in a press release on Wednesday.
The IMD also said that light/moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall with isolated thunderstorms, lightning & hailstorm are also very likely over Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and West Bengal & Sikkim during the next 24 hours and dry weather thereafter. Heavy rainfall is also likely over north interior Odisha during the next 24 hours.
Dense fog is also expected to blanket these states until Friday, December 31st.
In view of these predictions, the IMD has issued a yellow watch over these states on Wednesday and Thursday, with the advisory urging their residents to ‘be aware of the local weather situation.
These conditions will be caused by the combination of a western disturbance located over Pakistan and adjoining Jammu & Kashmir, a cyclonic circulation over central parts of Uttar Pradesh, and a trough running from southwest Madhya Pradesh to south Bihar across north Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.
As for the mercury levels, the minimum temperatures in Northeast states are likely to remain near normal.
