" 15-Inch Banana from Wokha, Nagaland"
A potentially world record-breaking 15-inch (38.1 cm) banana has been harvested in Mungyanphen Baghty Valley of Wokha district, Nagaland, drawing national attention to the region’s fertile agricultural lands.
The giant banana was grown by N. Tsanthungo Ngullie, a local farmer who only discovered its extraordinary size after harvesting it on July 8. The banana’s length clearly exceeds the current Guinness World Record of 12 inches, and local authorities have now stepped in to document and verify the fruit for official submission.
According to reports from NLTV Nagaland and other local media outlets, the banana was found among a routine harvest in an area already known for its banana cultivation. However, this specific specimen’s size took everyone by surprise—including the grower himself.
“I didn’t realize it was unusual until after I cut it,” said Tsanthungo in a local interview. “Only when we measured it did we understand it could be something special.”
Officials are currently in the process of recording formal measurements, photographic documentation, and preservation of the fruit as per Guinness World Records protocol. Once submitted, the banana could officially dethrone the current world record-holder.
Nagaland’s Mungyanphen Baghty Valley has long been a key banana-growing region in Nagaland. Under the ‘One District, One Product’ (ODOP) initiative, Wokha has received special focus for banana development. The valley’s climate and fertile soil have consistently produced robust harvests, but this 15-inch fruit may be the most iconic yet.
