An Air India Boeing 777 flight from London Heathrow to Mumbai encountered a mid-air health emergency when several passengers and crew members reported symptoms of food poisoning. The incident occurred on Monday during Flight AI‑130, when five passengers began experiencing nausea, dizziness, and stomach discomfort shortly after meal service.
In addition to the affected passengers, two cabin crew members also fell ill, with one crew member collapsing during the flight. The flight crew alerted Mumbai airport authorities, and medical teams were deployed to assist upon arrival at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
After landing, two passengers and two crew members received medical attention at the airport’s medical facility and were later discharged. The pilots remained unaffected as their meals were served at a different time, in line with standard safety procedures to prevent simultaneous incapacitation.
The airline has ruled out any issues related to cabin depressurisation, as no oxygen masks were deployed during the flight. An internal investigation has been launched, and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been notified. The suspected cause remains food contamination, and further testing of the in-flight meals is underway.
