Drug Peddler Nabbed in Sikkim
Namchi District Police arrested an alleged drug peddler from Majhigaon, Jorethang, on Wednesday. The accused, identified as Santosh Kumar Rai, alias “Jaytha“, was apprehended from his residence following a targeted operation based on a credible tip-off and multiple public complaints.
During the raid, authorities recovered a significant quantity of blue-colored capsules suspected to be a banned substance under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The police have registered a case under the NDPS Act and the Sikkim Anti-Drugs Act (SADA), with further investigation currently underway.
A police spokesperson stated that the arrest is part of the district’s intensified anti-drug drive aimed at curbing the rising menace of substance abuse, particularly among youth. “We are committed to rooting out the drug network from our communities. The public’s cooperation remains crucial,” the official added.
Santosh Rai, known locally by his alias “Jaytha,” is suspected to be involved in the illegal supply of narcotics in and around Jorethang. His arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to dismantle such networks operating in South Sikkim.
