Pakyong Police Recover 50 Phones, Solve Gold Theft Case

The Pakyong Police Station has successfully recovered 50 lost or stolen mobile phones out of 98 registered complaints, thanks to the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal developed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

The CEIR platform enables law enforcement to trace and block stolen mobile devices using their IMEI numbers. Once a device is blocked, it becomes unusable on any Indian telecom network, significantly reducing its resale value and discouraging mobile theft.

Before CEIR’s implementation, tracing lost phones across telecom circles was a tedious process. Now, with a few digital entries, police can blacklist a phone instantly. In one notable case, a missing phone belonging to a resident of Aho, Pakyong, was tracked to Bihar. The person in possession, realizing it had been flagged, returned it by speed post. The phone was verified and handed back to its rightful owner.

The portal also played a crucial role in solving Pakyong PS FIR No. 12/2025 dated March 9, 2025, under BNS Sections 331(3)/305(a). In this case, stolen gold ornaments were recovered, and the accused were apprehended—another testament to how CEIR is supporting broader investigations beyond phones.

Police have urged the public to note down their IMEI numbers, either from the device box or by dialing *#06#, and to report losses immediately. Citizens can directly block their stolen phone on the CEIR portal by uploading their complaint copy and ID proof.
