"AI Event in Sikkim Gains Central Support"
Sikkim is poised to become a hub for Artificial Intelligence (AI) advancement after the Union Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology responded positively to a proposal from Lok Sabha MP Dr. Indra Hang Subba to host a large-scale AI event in the state. The initiative aims to position Northeast India as a key player in the country’s AI landscape and ensure the region’s active participation in India’s digital future.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has welcomed the proposal, recognizing the strategic importance of promoting AI innovation and skill development in the Northeast. The minister assured that further discussions would take place to evaluate the event’s feasibility and align it with the government’s broader vision of inclusive technological growth.
Dr. Subba emphasized that Northeast India holds significant potential in the AI sector. “A dedicated AI platform in Sikkim will empower the youth, entrepreneurs, and researchers, ensuring their active role in India’s digital transformation,” he said. He added that strengthening human resource capacity in AI would equip individuals with the skills needed to adapt to the rapidly evolving demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
AI is expected to reshape industries and daily life across the globe, making it essential for regions like Sikkim to harness its benefits. With one of the highest literacy rates in India and a growing interest in technology, Sikkim is well-positioned to lead AI adoption and innovation.
If approved, the AI event will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, and researchers, creating a platform for knowledge exchange and collaborative growth. This initiative is seen as a major step toward making Sikkim a key player in India’s AI-driven future.
