"Sikkim Hosts Special Olympics Bharat"
Special Olympics Bharat, Sikkim Chapter (SOB, SC) is set to host the State-level Special Games for Divyangjan at Khel Gaon, Reshithang, Ranka on April 25, 2025. The event will see the participation of around 120 specially-abled athletes selected from district-level competitions held across all six districts during 2023–24.
Operating under the umbrella of Special Olympics Bharat and supported by Special Olympics Asia-Pacific and Special Olympics International, SOB, SC continues its mission of promoting inclusive excellence through sporting and skill development activities for persons with intellectual disabilities in the state.
The upcoming event is being organized in collaboration with the Department of Sports & Youth Affairs, Education Department, and the Women, Child, Senior Citizens & Divyangjan Welfare & Development Department. It is also being supported by the Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority and Sikkim Police.
Participants will compete in events such as 60m and 100m races, Soft Ball Throw, Shot Put, and Bocce. In addition to the sports competition, future events including musical and quiz competitions are planned for later this year.
Dr. Reman Chettri, along with key officials such as Shri P.N. Pradhan, Ms. Chandra Bhandari, and Shri G.C. Khanal, shared detailed insights into the preparations, the role of various departments, and the importance of public support in uplifting the morale of Divyangjan athletes. All participating students are expected to arrive in Gangtok by April 24, ahead of the main event.
The public is warmly invited to attend and cheer for the athletes, reaffirming community support for inclusive development and empowerment.
