Sikkim’s Jordan Lepcha Honored with Padma Shri Award

Sikkim’s craftsman, Shri Jordan Lepcha, has been conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri Award, the fourth highest civilian award. Mr. Lepcha, a marginal farmer and skilled bamboo craftsman from Mangan, has been actively preserving the cultural heritage of the Lepcha tribes for the past 25 years. His expertise lies in weaving traditional Lepcha Hats and creating beautiful bamboo crafts, serving as an inspiration to younger generations. May his dedication, hard work, and achievements continue to inspire and encourage future artists and cultural enthusiasts.

Sikkim’s CM PS Golay also congratulated him on being presented with the Padma Shri. He wrote on his social media handle,

“Congratulations and best wishes to Shri Jordan Lepcha for being conferred with the prestigious Padma Shri Award for his diligent efforts in preserving the cultural heritage of the Lepcha tribe through weaving traditional hats and crafting bamboo for the past 25 years.
