NH-10 blocked at 29th mile, Sikkim- Siliguri Road

National Highway NH 10 blocked at 29th mile, Sikkim- Siliguri connection since 7 Am today morning which had triggered a landslide on the National Highway-10 at 29th mile, Siliguri, West Bengal, which is also strategic link road connecting Sikkim with the plains of Siliguri.

Today Morning it has been reported that Landslide at 29 Miles, near Siliguri, has blocked the highway on Sunday morning.

The NH-10 connects Sikkim’s Rangpo to Kalimpong district, Darjeeling, and Siliguri town. An orange alert has also been sounded by the MeT department in the Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts of West Bengal and in neighboring Sikkim as the region is likely to experience heavy rainfall over the next few days.

According to reports, the incessant rainfall, starting on Saturday evening, led to several landslides in a large part of NH-10 Highway disrupting vehicular movement on the connecting stretch.

Since last 24 hour the region had witnessed torrential rainfall in North Bengal and Sikkim. Last day, Teesta river water was also seen coming till Highway Road.

At 8 AM, today, Sunday morning the administration rushed into the landslide spot and is currently working out clearing up operations, local sources said.

“After the landslide was reported nearby we arrived at around 8 am to clear it. The road was already closed, the landslide was reported in other places as well. Mud, rocks and debris had accumulated on the road” said the local administration who was seen reaching on the spot to clear the road.
