SMU & SU to hold two-day National Conference

GANGTOK, 12 Dec 2022 The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Sikkim Manipal University (SMU), in collaboration with the Department of Commerce, Sikkim University (SU) will hold a two-day National Conference on Atmanirbhar Bharat: Prospects and Challenges at SMU campus here on 13th and 14th December, 2022.

Dr Pramesh Chettri, Assistant Professor, Department of HSS, SMU and Prof. S.S. Mahapatra, Department of Commerce, Sikkim University, the joint convenors said that the conference will cater to wide areas of discussion regarding the prospects and challenges in making India self-reliant, efficient and resilient. 

The Conference will also emphasise upon aspects relating to the optimal utilization of available resources as envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. It focuses on deliberating upon potential perspectives in making India self-reliant through sustainability and self-generation under the Atmanirbhar Mission of the Union Government of India. Further, the Conference will aim at exploring different avenues in different sectors of the Indian economy in general and North eastern region in particular.

Resource persons and participants from across the country will be presenting their papers on different themes like entrepreneurship, the role of start-ups and MSMEs, skill development, hospitality and tourism management, corporate social responsibility etc.

Prof. Shanti S. Sharma, the Vice-Chancellor (In-charge) of Sikkim University will be the Chief Guest for the inaugural session to be held on 13th December in the presence of Prof. Ganga Prasad Prasain, Vice-Chancellor, Tripura University, Prof. G.L. Sharma, Director, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology and other dignitaries. Prof. Abhijit Dutta, Department of Commerce, Sikkim University will deliver the keynote address which will be followed by other technical sessions. Dr (Lt. Gen) Rajan S. Grewal, Vice-Chancellor, Sikkim Manipal University will be the Chief Guest for the valedictory session on the 14th of December wherein Mr. A.K. Tamaria, Joint director, MSME, Government of India will deliver the valedictory address.
