Mangan, North Sikkim 15th Nov (IPR): The District Child Protection Unit, North organized a “Street Play-cum- Sensitization Programme on Child Rights” for the Government officials and general public at District Administrative Centre, Mangan today.
The programme was graced by the Chief Guest, Additional Political Secretary to HCM, Shri Tshering Wangyal Bhutia, DC,North, ADC, North, SP,North and all the Government officials of the DAC,Mangan. The DCPO,North Smt. Wendy lepcha highlighted on Child Rights, Child Protection structures in the district, Child related legislations and the importance of community responsibility in Protection of Child rights.
The students of North Sikkim Academy performed a Street play on the growing Cases of child sexual abuse in the district. The Childline Coordinator, Mrinalini Gurung, shared about the functions of CHILDLINE and the details of Childline,North District. The DC,North, Shri Tenzing T.Kaleon, urged the gathering to be involved in Protection of child rights and to report any such case relating to violation of child rights. The SP, North, Shri tshering Gyatso Bhutia, emphasized on the important role of Education Department in curbing such cases and also the cases of dropouts, and educating children on their rights as well as in motivating them through career counseling.
The Chief Guest, Shri Tshering Wangyal Bhutia, Additional Political Secretary to HCM, highlighted on the alarming rate of POCSO cases in the district and informed that statutory bodies and legislations have been implemented for Protection of children. The programme was concluded with Vote of Thanks by the Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee, North, Smt Mingma Doma Bhutia.
