Two separate cases of suicide were reported in Sikkim on the same day, raising concerns over mental health issues and emotional well-being in the state.

In the first incident, a 27-year-old man identified as Deepen Dahal, son of Tulshi Prasad Dahal, was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside his rented room at IBM Rangpo. The incident came to light after his landlord, Rup Narayan Khatiwara, filed an FIR at Rangpo Police Station on March 14, 2025. According to police sources, Deepen was not responding to phone calls and had locked his room from the inside. His landlord, along with Deepen’s brother and police personnel, broke open the door and discovered him hanging. No external injuries were found on the body except for a ligature mark on the neck. After a medico-legal autopsy at District Hospital Singtam, the body was handed over to the legal guardian. The case has been registered under FIR No. 08/2025 under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and is currently under investigation.

In the second case, a 19-year-old girl named Ongda Lhamu Lepcha, daughter of Tshering Lepcha from Dzongu, Mangan District, was found hanging from an iron bar on the rooftop of a residence below Palzor Stadium, Sichey, Gangtok. The incident was reported by Sonam Wangyal Bhutia, a resident of Pelling, who found the body at around 6:30 AM on March 13, 2025. The deceased was found hanging using a scarf. Following the completion of legal formalities, the body was handed over to the legal guardian. Sadar Police Station registered the case under FIR No. 20/2025, under Section 194 of the BNS, 2023.
