Zuluk’s Old Silk Route Crowned ‘India’s Most Scenic Drive’ at 2025 Tourism Awards

Zuluk’s historic Old Silk Route in Sikkim has been awarded the title of ‘Most Scenic Route in India’ by the India Today Tourism Survey and Awards 2025. Recognized for its awe-inspiring landscapes, winding mountain roads, and panoramic views of the Eastern Himalayas, this iconic route continues to attract travelers and nature lovers.

The award was presented at the India Today Travel Awards Ceremony at The Oberoi, New Delhi, where dignitaries from the tourism industry gathered. Union Minister for Tourism & Culture, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, presented the honor to Sikkim’s Tourism & Civil Aviation Minister, Tshering T. Bhutia, alongside Principal Secretary C.S. Rao (IFS).

Zuluk, perched at 10,100 feet, remains a major highlight of the historic Silk Route, once a thriving trade corridor. Today, it offers travelers breathtaking views of Mount Kanchenjunga and the famous Zig Zag Road with its 32 hairpin bends, making it one of India’s most exhilarating drives.
