Sikkim to begin covid-vaccination for children aged 15-18 from January 3, Medical Suprident announced in media.

Last days as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, covid-vaccination for children aged 15 to 18 years is starting from 3rd January 2022, in South District of Sikkim. The inauguration program will be in District Hospital Namchi and at five blocks namely Temi PHC/HWC, Jorethang CHC/HWC, Namthang PHC/HWC, Melli PHC/HWC, and Ravangla PHC/HWC.

As per the guidelines by the Department of Health, registration will be online and onsite but during holidays i.e from 3rd January 2022 to 8th January 2022 only online registration is available to avoid the crowd. Beneficiaries children between 15 to 18 years, need to register themselves in Cowin portal before coming for vaccination.

The online registration will be open on 1st January 2022 at the cowin.gov.in portal. Covaxin is the vaccine used for children aged 15 to 18 years and the interval between two doses is 28 days. The sessions will be conducted at the different health centers as per their schedule given to health workers.

From 10th January 2022, the precautionary dose will be given to Health Care Worker (HCW), FrontLine Worker (FLW), and 60 above with co-morbidity. People above 60 years of age who have co-morbidities will also have the option to take the booster dose on a recommendation from doctors. This will also start from January 10. The precautionary dose should be taken after 9 months from the administration of the 2nd dose and simultaneously 18 above COVID 19 vaccination continues as before.

“In India, many people are infected with Omicron. So far there is zero cases of Omicron in Sikkim. For further preventable, I would urge all of you not to panic, be careful, and be alert during the new Year. Follow social distance and wash hands and wear a mask,” MS, STNM told the media.

As per the State Health Ministry, Sikkim has reported 10 new COVID-19 cases with 56 active cases in the last 24 hours.
