A state-level awareness and incentive distribution programme for Maitris (Artificial Insemination Workers) under the National Artificial Insemination Programme (NAIP) was held at the Regional Training Centre, Sochegang, Gangtok. The programme was organized by the Sikkim Livestock Development Board (SLDB) under the Department of Animal Husbandry and Livestock Development, Government of Sikkim.
Minister for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Shri Puran Kumar Gurung, attended the programme as the chief guest. Secretary of the department Sandeep Gurung, Chief Executive Officer of SLDB Dr. Pratik Sharma, directors, concerned departmental officials and beneficiary Maitris were also present.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Gurung stated that various programmes are being implemented under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) for the development of the agriculture, animal husbandry and livestock sectors in the state.
He said that Maitris are playing an important role in taking artificial insemination and modern reproductive services to livestock farmers at the grassroots level. Highlighting their contribution towards promoting scientific livestock breeding systems, enhancing livestock productivity and expanding farmers’ access to modern reproductive services, Minister Gurung said that the incentive amount was being distributed in recognition of their efforts.
During the programme, cheques for incentive payments were distributed to Maitris working under the NAIP. They were also felicitated in recognition of their contribution to livestock development and artificial insemination services.
The programme also witnessed the launch of a camera-equipped Digital AI Gun and an Automatic Thawing Machine. These modern technology-based equipment are expected to help make the artificial insemination process more systematic, efficient and scientific.
The programme marked an important initiative towards strengthening artificial insemination services, promoting modern livestock breeding practices and enhancing the delivery of reproductive healthcare services to livestock farmers across Sikkim.
