DC Soreng Chairs Health and Education Dept Meeting to Review NITI Aayog Programmes.

DC Soreng Shri Bhim Thatal chaired the coordination meeting with the Health and Family Welfare Department and Education Department of Soreng District at his Chamber in the presence of CMO Gyalsing/Soreng Dr Bikash Pradhan, Senior AO LRMD Shri Bishnu Lall Sharma, Medical Officers of Soreng District and Officials from Education Department.

The main objective of the meeting was to provide assistance from NITI Aayog Fund. He assured all Medical Officers for the providing assistance towards the procurement of medical equipments such as Dental Chair, Dental X Ray machine, air-conditioning, generator, inverter, Autoclave machines, Cardio Monitor, Digital X Ray, Ambulance, Suction Machine, Equipment for Physiotherapy and other equipments.

He also directed that all the Officers of Soreng District and Medical Officers should be Nikshay Mitra and should support at least one Tuberculosis patient of Soreng District. He added that Tuberculosis Mukt Bharat has a target to eliminate TB Patients by 2024. Tuberculosis is now a community responsibility not only for Health Department and every individual should be aware and be talking about it.

Shri Thatal further directed the CMO to constitute District Health Mission and District Health Society by the end of the month. There is one Rogi Kalyan Samiti for Soreng District and three Jan Aarogya Samiti to be constituted at PHCs level which must be done by this month. He also mentioned that the Health and Family Welfare Department should maintain Health Profile of each area under the respective Medical Officers and submit to his office. He then enquired about the medicine stock, emergency response and COVID-19 related issues.

DC Soreng further mentioned that Special Educators and Resource Teachers of Education Department should work in close coordination with the Health Department. He also instructed that Power Department should install three-phase power supply in every PHC of the Soreng District.

"Rhino poaching in 2022"

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that no rhinos were poached in the state in 2022.

CM Sarma said no rhino was poached at Kaziranga, Manas, Orang national parks and Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary last year, calling it landmark.

“Zero Poaching! 2022 was really special for our rhino conservation efforts. Not a single rhino being poached in 2022 & just 2 in 2021, the gentle giant is now much safer in Assam. Kudos to Assam Forest Dept & Assam Police for their sincere efforts to protect the iconic animal,” CM Sarma tweeted on Monday.

Special DGP GP Singh posted data on Twitter on Monday that showed that 2022 was the first since at least 2000 in which there were no incidents of rhino poaching in Assam.

“Anti Rhino poaching efforts have yielded spectacular results. There has been no rhino poaching in Assam in Year 2022. Last poaching was on Dec 28th 2021 at Hilakunda, Kohora in Golaghat district. We would strive to keep the graph flat,” Singh tweeted.

As many as 191 rhinos were poached in Assam between 2000 and 2021. In 2013 and 2014, 27 rhino deaths each were reported. In 2020 and 2021, two rhinos each were killed.

As per the latest census data put out by Kaziranga National Park authority, the national park is now home to 2,613 rhinos and the numbers are increasing.

MIZORAM CM SEEKS UN ACTION TO CONTAIN DRUG TRAFFICKING FROM MYANMAR

Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga has urged the UN to take proactive steps to curb the illegal drugs trafficking and smuggling of various contraband goods from Myanmar.

The Chief Minister said that without any control and prohibition of the Myanmar authorities, rampant drugs trading and poppy cultivation has been going on in the neighbouring country and they are smuggled to Mizoram, Manipur and other northeastern states.

Apart from the Golden Triangle (which includes Myanmar, Laos and Thailand), militant outfits in Myanmar are involved in poppy cultivation, he said.

“We are facing the big challenge of drug trafficking. Mizoram police, para-military forces together with Churches, NGOs and local people have joined in the war against drugs,” Zoramthanga said during an interview with IANS.

“We need the help of the Indian government and the UN to effectively tackle the illicit drug trades.”

The 78-year-old veteran politician said: “Considering the humanitarian aspects, we are providing relief and shelter to over 30,000 Myanmarese and over 300 tribals from Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh.

Over 30,500 Myanmar nationals sheltered in the northeastern state after the military seized power in the country through a coup in February last year while around 310 Kuki-Chin tribals, following troubles, fled from the Chittagong Hill Tracts of southeast Bangladesh and took shelter in Mizoram since November 20.

Zoramthanga, who had written several letters and spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah urging them to provide relief, aid and asylum to the Myanmar nationals as the state government was facing a financial crisis to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic and related problems, said that despite being a small state, Mizoram is providing relief and shelter to the Myanmar and Bangladeshi nationals without any assistance from the Central government.

“The Central government has been saying that as India is not a signatory of the UN Refugee Convention, that’s why they are unable to provide direct help in this regard. But taking care of the large number of refugees is a big burden from the state,” he said.

After the Myanmarese had started entering Mizoram (few in Manipur) since March last year, the Union Home Ministry had sent out an advisory to four northeastern states — Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh — which share a 1,640-km unfenced border with Myanmar, saying that the states and UTs have no power to grant “refugee” status to any foreigner, and India is not a signatory to the UN Refugee Convention of 1951 and its 1967 Protocol.

The Mizoram government and other organisations including Churches and NGOs have not only been giving food, shelter and other assistance to the Myanmar refugees, but the state government has providing teaching to their hundreds of children, the Chief Minister said.

“My own maternal uncles have died in Myanmar in the conflict. We know their language and food habits. They are our brothers and sisters. We cannot overlook the hapless condition of the distressed people. I hope that after the restoration of peace in Myanmar, the refugees will return to their country,” he said.

Due to the conflict between the underground outfits and the Bangladesh police and armed forces, the refugees from that country took shelter in Mizoram, he said, adding that the opposition parties are fully cooperating with the state government in handling the refugee issues.

The Myanmar refugees and the Chin-Kuki tribals of Bangladesh and the Mizos in Mizoram belong to the Zo community and share the same culture and ancestry.

The Chief Minister said that after dealing with Covid-19 pandemic in which thousands of people were infected and hundreds of them died, the Mizoram government is now facing the big challenge of the refugee issue.

The 40-member Mizoram Assembly is expected to go to polls in November or December 2023.

Zoramthanga, also the President of the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), to a question about the political situation in his state said that the assembly elections are around one year away, and the situation may change in the next several months.

“This is too early to say. I am unable to predict now about the pre-poll scenario. In politics, lots of change can happen in one month,” said the veteran leader, who is now holding the office of the Chief Minister for third term (1998-2003, 2003-2008 and 2018 to 2023).

The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) on Saturday sealed Pizza Hut located in Guwahati’s Lalganesh area for violations of the terms and regulations for running the business of a restaurant.

“The Health and Enforcement Branches of Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) conducted a raid and sealed “M/s Pizza Hut”, Devyani International Limited, located at Lokhra Road, Lalganesh, Ward no. 17, Guwahati for violation of terms and conditions for running the business of a restaurant on December 31, 2022,” GMC said in a statement.

“Based on a public complaint, inspections were carried out where violations like nonproduction of trade licence, improper installation of exhaust chimney causing nuisance, improper installation of LPG cylinders near a high voltage electric transformer and a generator creating fire safety issues to public, pedestrians, neighbours, etc were detected,” it said.

“Repeated notices were served to M/s Pizza Hut to rectify the aforesaid violations but the trader failed to remove all of the violations,” it added.

“Moreover, M/s Pizza Hut did not submit the copy of fire NOC of the building premises to the concerned branch of GMC as sought for in the notices. Therefore, in view of above and in exercise of the powers conferred under section 404 of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation Act, 1969, as amended and in the interest of public service, the trade licence of M/s Pizza Hut was revoked and the trade was sealed today on 31st December 2022,” the statement further added.

Commercial LPG Cylinder price hiked by Rs.25

Oil companies have hiked the price of 19kg commercial Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders by Rs 25 on Sunday. 

With the latest revision in prices, the price of commercial LPG cylinders in Delhi will now cost Rs 1,769. Earlier, the 19kg cylinder was being sold at Rs 1,744.

After the hike, a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder would now cost Rs 1,721 In Mumbai, Rs 1,870 in Kolkata and Rs 1,971 in Chennai.

In Guwahati, a commercial LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 1,952.

Earlier in November 2022, the Oil marketing companies (OMC) slashed the price of commercial cooking gas across the four metro cities by Rs 115.5. In September and October as well, the OMC slashed the price of commercial gas cylinders by Rs 91.5 and Rs 25.50, respectively.

On the other hand, the price of domestic LPG prices has not been hiked for the second straight month.

However, there was no change in the price of domestic LPG cylinders. The price of a non-subsidised 14.2 kg LPG cylinder in Guwahati stands at Rs 1,102.

The price of LPG cylinders is revised monthly for all states and union territories in India. The prices vary from city to city depending on the incidence of local taxes such as VAT.the middle of the month.

Oil marketing companies in the country sells 14.2 kg cylinders to domestic households at the prices prevalent in the open market, but the centre provides subsidies for 12 such cylinders to beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) each year through a direct benefit transfer to their bank accounts.

Darjeeling person involved in fake recruitment scam arrested

Troops of Trishakti Corps along with local police conducted a Joint Operation at about 6 AM on 29 Dec and apprehended a person from Pashupati market under PS Sukhiapokhri, Darjeeling.

The operation was based on inputs about an imposter posing as serving army officer, namely Colonel Mann Bdr Gurung who was involved in fake recruitment activities and was in contact with number of Nepalese nationals.

Initial investigation has revealed the person as Mann Bdr Gurung, resident of Taratal , PS Pokhara, Dist Bardiya (Nepal) and is a deserter from Nepal Army.

The individual was produced in court of district magistrate on 30 Dec 22 and remanded to 7 days police custody for further interrogation.
