Sikkim’s Tourism and Industries Minister, Mr. Tshering T. Bhutia, held a significant meeting with Gautam Gambhir, the newly appointed head coach of the Indian Men’s Cricket Team, during his official visit to Delhi. The meeting focused on exploring the potential of sports as a catalyst for national development, particularly in promoting sports and tourism in Sikkim.
Minister Bhutia emphasized Sikkim’s untapped potential as a hub for sporting activities, highlighting its natural beauty and favorable environment for various sports. He noted, “Sikkim has the potential to become a premier destination for sports tourism and related activities.” The Minister expressed his hope for future collaborations with Gambhir and other stakeholders to promote sports within the state. He also highlighted the potential for adventure and sports tourism in Sikkim, envisioning the state as a leading destination in these sectors.
Gautam Gambhir, who recently retired from politics after serving as a Lok Sabha MP since June 2019, was appointed the new head coach of the Indian Men’s Cricket Team on July 9, 2024. During their discussion, Gambhir expressed his commitment to supporting sports development across the country.
Minister Bhutia is currently in Delhi to attend a Union Minister’s Conference on Industries, scheduled for September 5. The conference, chaired by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Mr. Piyush Goyal, will focus on promoting industrial growth and investment opportunities in Sikkim and across the nation.
