BJP Sikkim has expressed deep concern over an alleged incident involving the physical assault of local drivers by Army personnel near Shiv Mandir while returning from Zero Point in North Sikkim’s Lachung area.
In a press release, the party stated that the people of Sikkim have always held the Indian Army in high regard and that the relationship between the Army and local communities has long been based on mutual trust, respect and cooperation. BJP Sikkim noted that maintaining cordial relations between the armed forces and civilians is especially important given Sikkim’s strategic location as a border state.
While acknowledging the Army’s significant role in safeguarding the nation, the party said any isolated incident involving alleged misconduct or unlawful use of force against civilians is unfortunate and should be addressed appropriately.
BJP Sikkim emphasized that such incidents should not be allowed to damage the longstanding bond between the Army and the people of Sikkim. At the same time, it stressed the need for accountability and justice to maintain public confidence.
The party has urged the concerned authorities to conduct a fair and impartial inquiry into the matter and take action in accordance with the law against anyone found responsible. According to BJP Sikkim, prompt action would help uphold justice and further strengthen the relationship between the Army and the people of the state.
