The Union Government has introduced the ‘Cashless Treatment’ scheme to enhance road safety and ensure immediate medical assistance for accident victims. Announced by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, the scheme provides financial coverage of up to ₹1.5 lakh for the first seven days of treatment, provided the accident is reported to the police within 24 hours.
Families of deceased victims in hit-and-run cases will also receive an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh.
Aimed at addressing challenges related to documentation and hospital compliance, the scheme has already shown positive results. In the first week of March, 11 accident victims in Gurgaon received cashless treatment under the program.
