Generali Central Life Insurance on Wednesday donated two fully equipped advanced life-support ambulances to Sir Thutob Namgyal Memorial (STNM) Hospital, Gangtok.

The initiative is aimed at strengthening emergency response capabilities across the state, particularly in remote and mountainous regions where access to timely medical assistance often remains a challenge.
As the lead insurer for Sikkim since 2022, Generali Central Life Insurance said the donation reflects its commitment to supporting communities beyond insurance and contributing to the state’s overall well-being.

The ambulances, equipped with advanced life-support systems, will be deployed by STNM Hospital, the state’s largest healthcare institution. Officials said the vehicles will help ensure faster patient transportation and improve emergency medical care for residents of Gangtok and nearby areas.
Speaking at the event, Managing Director and CEO of Generali Central Life Insurance, Alok Rungta, said the company believes in being a “Lifetime Partner” to communities by supporting them during critical moments.

“These ambulances are a step towards ensuring timely healthcare reaches people when they need it the most. Our commitment goes beyond financial protection and extends to building stronger, healthier communities,” he said.

Welcoming the initiative, Mahendra Pradhan, Director-Finance and Nodal Officer of the Government of Sikkim, described the donation as an important contribution to the state’s healthcare infrastructure.
He noted that Generali Central Life Insurance has played a key role in promoting insurance awareness across Sikkim and said such partnerships would be crucial in achieving the state’s target of ‘Insurance for All’ by 2027.

Sikkim Health Minister G.T. Dhungel also praised the initiative, stating that the addition of the ambulances would enhance emergency response services and ensure quicker medical assistance for patients across the state.
Highlighting the importance of last-mile connectivity, Sarvesh Kumar Mishra, Chief Third Party Distribution Officer of the company, said that improving access to healthcare is especially important in a geographically challenging state like Sikkim.

“Advanced life-support ambulances can make a significant difference for people living in remote areas by ensuring critical care reaches them without delay,” he said.
As part of the programme, the insurer also organised a blood donation camp at STNM Hospital, further reinforcing its commitment to community health and welfare.

Dr. Ruth Yonzan, Medical Superintendent of STNM Hospital, expressed gratitude for the support and said the ambulances would significantly strengthen the hospital’s emergency care capabilities.
“In a state where difficult terrain can often delay access to treatment, these ambulances will help us provide timely and quality medical care to patients across Sikkim,” she said.

Generali Central Life Insurance has been actively working to expand insurance coverage and financial literacy across the state through grassroots outreach programmes, awareness campaigns and partnerships with government agencies, Gram Panchayats and community organisations.
According to the company, more than 6,500 lives in Sikkim have been covered under its Rural and Social Sector Obligations mandate as of May 31, 2026, supporting the broader vision of achieving universal insurance coverage and strengthening financial resilience across the state.
