ARE MUSLIMS SAFE IN INDIA?

0
"Muslims in India"

Context:

Recently our Ex VP Mr. Hamid Ansari, on the last day of his office, made a statement that there is a state of unease and insecurity among the Muslims of India. This statement was backed by certain sections of the media. They have been going on with this narrative of insecurity among Muslims for quite some time now. They have portrayed India as a Hindu state where Muslims are oppressed and live in fear. Sadly it’s not the complete truth that is more dangerous than a total lie. The ground reality is something different.

However, is there any part of the globe where one or the other section of Muslims does not feel insecure or alienated from the country of their origin or residence?

Saudi and Middle East:

Even in Saudi Arabia, the birthplace of Islam and the Middle East and North African countries, the conditions of Muslims are no better. Human rights and liberties are virtually nonexistent, especially for women. Women in these countries are largely absent from high-level political positions, restricted in marriage, divorce, and citizenship rights. They face discrimination in every walk of life. Religious minorities often find it difficult to practice their faith in public or advance in government positions.

There is a constant conflict between the various sects of Islam. Each one is trying to prove that they are the real Muslims. These countries rely heavily on judicial interpretations of Sharia law, making it difficult to protect against discrimination. In all these countries, sections of Muslims continue to feel “insecure” and resort to violence either against the state or each other. The killers and their victims, both, swear by Islam. The recent bombing of the mosque in Mosul by the ISIS is an example of this.

The USA:

Do Muslims feel safe in the USA, a country founded on tolerance and freedom? Muslims here are labeled as a safety threat. One can’t simply walk around in Hijabs or with a beard and not being looked at suspiciously. In the wake of 9/11 many also believe that the government “singles out” Muslims for increased surveillance and monitoring. Similar is the case of Europe.

China:

Do Muslims feel safe in China? Although there is a blooming friendship between China and an Islamic Pakistan, Muslims are at war with the state in the Xinjiang province of China. Muslims here are not allowed to keep beards or wear skull cup or teach their religion to their children. Fasting is banned during Ramadan. They are issued separate identity cards by the state.

Pakistan:

Unfortunately, a few Muslims think that our neighbor Pakistan is a custodian of Muslims. However, they never talk about the 15lakh Bengali Muslims killed by Pakistan in 1971. Over the years, the Shias and Hazaras of Pakistan specifically targeted and killed by machine guns and suicide bombers like the ones in Quetta. They have been killed inside mosques and shopping markets, while on pilgrimage and even at funerals. Ahmadis have been declared illegal in an act passed in 1984.

https://thewire.in/41862/the-rising-threat-against-shia-muslims-in-pakistan/

A single fact that can change the perception of these people is that in Pakistan one has to pay taxes for Haj while in India one gets a subsidy for the same. Minorities even in the Muslim communities have equal rights in India. Shia mosques are not bombed in India. Ahmadis are not killed publicly. People are not stoned to death for so-called blasphemy and even terrorists like Ajmal Kasab are given a fair trial in India. Minority women are not raped and forced to convert in India unlike many other countries like present-day Iraq and Syria.

India:

I have spent my childhood playing around with my Muslim friends and now as an adult, I spend my days eating biryani in their marriages and other functions. The thing I learnt was that Hindu or Muslim does not affect your relationship with fellow humans.

Above all, Journalism and politics today promote this bitterness in the name of religion. There are some fringe elements in some parts of the country trying to unsettle the Muslims but they are mostly unsuccessful. Yes, there have been incidents like the lynching at Dadri and Alwar and the killing of Muslim youth for a train seat but one has to remember that these people are a part of a country that has a large record of crimes owing to its large population. One shouldn’t bring religion into these unfortunate crimes and realize that it’s the people who are suffering.

No Muslim I know feels unsafe in India at least in my part of the country because he is a Muslim. There may be some Muslims who feel unsafe there may be some Hindus who feel unsafe but it has nothing to do with belonging to any community. It’s time to look inwards. We are victims of each other but also the protector of each other too. Muslims are not safer or more unsafe as compare to other Indians.

On a lighter note, I would say that some Muslims should feel unsafe in India when they are constantly asked on every Eid to bring Sewai for their Hindu friends and on every Bakra Eid where they are forced to bring Biryani for them.

Fighting Terrorism- Are We Really in this together?

Are we really fighting with Terrorism

Is peace-talk and fighting terrorism just an idea in the minds of all the high-level international institutions? Are all the efforts collaborative or has a vested interest in the one’s who stand strong?

Apart from fighting COVID-19, that already destroyed so many lives to witnessing climate issues and then the terrorism and human rights violations. We need to have a clear analysis of where do we globally stand on these issues. Don’t we see how clearly how all these issues that should be under control are rather widespread?

What is terrorism?

Terrorism is taking the road opposite to our morals and then destroying stability bought in by peace thus creating high-level violence. The way, we understand terrorism and its spread is very important to be able to fight against the cause.

The word terror openly advocated by Robespierre, during French Revolution. Arbitrary arrest, torture, and execution to punish what it viewed as religious belief. Later, the approach adopted in western nations United States, Europe, Russia by the adherents of anarchism. The concept where to assassinate persons in positions of power will help them bring in social and revolutionary change.

So, is the use of terror and reasons always the same? The world become very violent by adopting new ways of getting what is being wished for. Many government officials, Presidents, Prime ministers, Diplomats, Journalists have been killed or assassinated. The practice of terror changed during the 20th century, several political movements international or regional, extreme left and extreme rights spectrum were observed around the globe. Does this have any contribution to the rise of Terror”ism”? A word turned into a whole practice.

What is international security?

It’s a term popularly used, where strong institutions pledge to fight against the ills of society. The aim is to ensure the collective survival of all countries by taking certain steps globally. The concept of liberation and globalisation bought the nation/ countries together to be able to stand against issues. Issues that are now very easy to witness in the name of Law of a community or protecting own religious teachings, caste-based, socio-economic status (the rich-poor).

World Terrorism network today:

Al Qaeda, ISIS, ISIL, The Taliban, AL- Shabab, Haqqani and more some restricted to regional or national boundaries. Just like the world government and leaders come together for maintaining peace. The terrorist network linked with one another. Taking the example of recent Kabul explosions. The uncertainty if Kabul is being run by Haqqani after the Taliban takeover.

This networking has its agendas. If you follow up on the Afghanistan situation, several media houses have reported. Taliban laughing when asked if women will be given the right to vote. Is there to be any voting when a particular terror group takes over a nation? Taliban leader urges to continue trade with INDIA. Does this come with an agenda? Just recently “Deepak Mittal ambassador to Qatar met officially with the Taliban political head Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai in Doha at Indian Embassy. The talks focused on the early return of Indian Nationals and travel of Afghan nationals in India, Minorities, Security – that Afghanistan’s soil should not be used for Anti- Indian Activities.

Keeping this in mind according to the Tribune India “Punjab Police thwart terrorist attack by arresting Tarn Taran resident; seize 2 hand grenades”. Punjab borders Sindh and the influx of grenades and RDX-laden tiffin boxes have been on increase.

On the other hand, the withdrawal of American troops over which the Taliban celebrates. There are over 200 Americans and Afghan’s that are left behind and resettlement of thousands of refugees is a challenge being faced by US President Biden. The evacuation now has been called into question by the Republican lawmakers. The massive suicide bombing killed 13 American U.S troops and more than 180 Afghans. Will Afghanistan be a breeding ground for future terrorism.

The peace-keeping organisations:

United Nations peace keeping organisation aims to maintain peace in areas of armed conflict where the peacekeeping forces are employed. Peacekeepers aim to protect civilians, actively prevent conflict, reduce violence, strengthen security, and empower national authorities to assume these responsibilities. This requires a coherent security and peacebuilding strategy that supports the political strategy.

Apparently, there are no guidelines for how to plan and deploy them under peacekeeping operations, followed by the above-mentioned aims. While celebrating the 3rd Anniversary of Action for Peacekeeping in March’21. The environment inside the peacekeeping still struggles to make it fully woman-friendly, since the working woman under the organisation is less. Why more women are required is not a question to ask. The answer to this is not equality only but what difference women being in an organisation make. We all have seen women tend to be the largest held victims in armed conflicted areas. Example- a woman now in Afghanistan being beaten to make bad food, rape, use of women as a sex slave. There are many incidents that only the one who experiences can help to solve. It takes one to be in the shoe of another to be able to act accordingly.

Two decades of American troops ended with an administrative takeover by an Armed community makes us question its existence. How helpful and active is the organisation regarding the recent result we have seen. “There are currently no discussions at the SC on sending a UN peacekeeping mission to Afghanistan and in particular to Kabul” quoting Business standard.

What are we currently looking at?

Regarding the Afghan situation, under India’s Presidency, a Resolution has been adopted. The vote was abstained by RUSSIA, CHINA, PAKISTAN. US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield disappointed with the abstentions of Russia and China stated, “I will tell you that within the P5 we consulted very closely.”

We can see a new regional structure emerging here – vested interests? Russia and China are the permanent members of the security council. How can a resolution not be supported unless there two nations are providing an alternation? Makes us question the coordination within the U.N security council. The game does not have to be Political every time especially when security concern is not limited to that of Afghan anymore. There is the possibility of more attacks in the coming future, even though the Taliban is trying to convey a message through Press conferences about wanting Afghans to follow the “Law of Sharia” and no harm to the international community or Afghan. But have ever human wants subsided after a little progress makes us bring the question of “new world order”.

“Truth is always the most important thing, even when it leads us into dark places” Deborah Ellis Author of The Breadwinner.

Jawaharlal Nehru University, JNU

It has already been about one and a half years since the pandemic has emerged. The education system has completely shifted to online mode. Last year was full of ups and downs. Since the pandemic was at its peak still the situation was managed well by the people and the government. The pandemic resulted in a variety of changes in daily lives and so it did with the education system.

Before the pandemic, the traditional method of teaching was followed, students and teachers were physically present at schools and colleges. But now, it is completely online. The sudden shift from traditional to online mode resulted in a bit of difficulty for both teachers and students. The reasons could be difficulty in adapting towards a new way of learning. Such as unavailability of proper internet connection and gadgets, or lack of proper knowledge regarding using online method etc. However, with time, people became familiar with the online mode of teaching and it is the new normal. Online classes initiated keeping in mind the safety of both staff and students. Moreover, it also has some backdrops such as lack of practical exposure.

After Senior Deputy Minister Manish Sisodia announced on Friday that the university could reopen from September 1, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University and Jamia Millia Islamia decided to conduct a meeting regarding the recommencement of offline activities. The notice announced that given the decrease in coronavirus cases, it would offer offline classes for science students. Later some teachers expressed their dissatisfaction with the university’s decision to summon students to campus. Later, the university postponed its decision. Registrar Vikas Gupta stated that the Delhi Disaster Management Authority has not issued any guidelines on reopening the campus. Speaking of the latest announcement by the Delhi government that schools and universities can be reopened from September 1, Mr. Gupta said on Friday: “We will hold an executive meeting on August 31, and we will proceed after that”.

DU and JNU:

The University of Delhi closed due to Covid since March last year. But seniors can return to the university to enter the lab and participate in practical courses in February this year. However, due to the second wave of Covid, classes were suspended again in April.

Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar, Vice President of Jawaharlal Nehru University, stated that once a formal order is received, the government will discuss the matter internally.

The university’s student union asking to reopen the campus in stages. After a long period of closure due to the COVID19 pandemic, classes from 9th -12th of schools, colleges and training institutions will reopen in the capital from September 1. This decision came as because the COVID19 situation in Delhi improved significantly. The second wave of brutal infections recently broke out, which claimed many lives. The shortage of oxygen in the city’s hospitals exacerbated these problems.

JMI:

An official from Jamia stated that educational institutions will await UGC’s guidance on the issue before deciding whether to resume physical education. “We will discuss the reopening of the campus with our decision-making bodies, academic and executive committees, and all stakeholders. We will also await UGC’s guidance on this matter”, he said.

He further added, “We have a lot of students from Kerala and they are reporting a lot of corona virus cases there, so we have to wait and see. We may not be able to open a hotel because we need to organize food and other things correctly”.

DEATH ON WHEELS? MADE IN INDIA SWIFT SCORES ZERO IN LATIN NCAP TEST

Death on wheel

With increased discussions related to safer cars in developing countries, primarily due to increased awareness regarding safety. Car manufactures have started to provide safer cars even in under-developed nations. But the recently tested “Made in India” 2021 Suzuki Swift scored 0 on the Latin NCAP test. These results put a big question mark on the claims of companies that they are improving safety standards in their cars.

WHAT IS THE LATIN NCAP TEST?

The word NCAP stands for New Car Assessment Program. This is a sort of car safety program designed to test the newly made automobiles for their response against various safety issues/threats. It was initially made and utilized in the US in 1979 to encourage companies for producing safer cars.

The Latin NCAP tests the cars sold in the Latin America and Caribbean Islands. It was launched in 2010 and tested over 120 cars. This test has different parameters as compared to the Global NCAP test which tests cars all over the globe.

SUZUKI SWIFT NCAP RESULTS

The India and Japan manufactured Suzuki Swift which comes with standard two airbags scored a zero in Latin NCAP. With this score, it joins the Renault Duster who had also scored a zero in Latin NCAP. Interestingly, Swift and Duster had scored two and three stars respectively in Global NCAP tests.

The popular hatchback, Swift has achieved 15.53%, 0% and 66.07% in the protection of adult occupant, Child occupant and Pedestrian protection respectively. These results assumed to be applicable for both the hatchback and sedan versions of Swift.

Further, as per the reports released by the crash test agency, the car lacked adequate side impact protection, standard side head airbags and lack Child Restraint Systems.

SUBSTANDARD CARS IN DEVELOPING NATIONS?

The Swift sold in the European Markets comes with 6 airbags and Electronic Stability Control as standards. Some of these features are not provided even in the top models sold in India. The majority of car manufactures accused of selling substandard cars in India. In order to make the car more affordable, they do cost-cutting in basic safety features like ESC and airbags. As of today, only 3 cars M&M XUV300, Tata Altroz and Tata Nexon, sold in India have scored a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP test.

Above all, the Government of India has been pushing car manufactures to increase their safety standards. Recently, the Transport Ministry had made it compulsory to offer two airbags and ABS as standard in all cars. A crash test similar to Global NCAP called BHARAT NCAP is proposed to the Ministry for the final nod.

MANIFESTATION: TRUE OR NOT

0
"Manifestation"

Do you know that you can achieve your desires by your positive thinking? Seems impossible? Well, it is 100% true.

Have you guys heard of the technique Manifestation? If no then voila! this article is for you guys only and if yes then also there is no problem in gaining extra knowledge.

WHAT IS MANIFESTATION?

Turning your desires into a full reality can be called manifestation. In psychology, manifestation generally means using our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs to bring something to our physical reality. In simpler terms manifestation is the conscious creation of the circumstances and outcomes that make for a fulfilling life.

 [berkelywellbeing.com]

Manifestation is related to Law of attraction but it does not mean that the law of attraction and manifestation are kind of the same because they are not. There is an explicit difference between the two.

The Law of attraction:

It means that you are attracting something in your life because you are focused on getting that thing. It means you will attract the things you focus on. In short like attracts like.

Unlike the law of attraction, manifestation means harnessing the power of your thoughts, desires, feelings knowingly or purposely in reality.

Now let’s take an example:

“The other day, I really wanted this dress, but it was $115, so I said to myself in my head, ‘I got $115. That’s great! I have the dress,’” Simoni said. “The same day, I went over to my dad’s house, and he asked me if I wanted a gift card for $120. I wasn’t expecting this because my parents usually never give me money.”

[thecampanile.org]

You can manifest anything, be it a job, money, your partner, love, anything you desire. But here is the things that do not doubt our thoughts while manifesting them. If you believe in it then only you can achieve it. Surround yourself with positive energy and positive surroundings.

One more thing is don’t just write things, sit down and wait that your desires will come to you by doing nothing. Do your work, take action, act on achieving your goal.

This is the main misconception among people that their desires manifest themselves without doing anything. Don’t think this.

HOW TO MANIFEST:

There are many ways or you can say more than one technique to manifest desires. But the common thing in all the techniques is to write everything in the present tense.

55 x 5 manifestation technique:

In this method, all you have to do is to first pick your affirmation that sums up your desire in short and then write down your affirmation on paper 55 times for 5 days regularly. This is because writing it that much time helps to reinforce the importance of your goal in your mind so that it remains on the top of your list.

333 & 777 & 369 manifestation technique:

In the 333 manifestation method you have to do the same thing just like the 55 x 5 method but this time you have to write your affirmation 33 times for 3 days.

Further, in the 777 manifestation method, you have to write your affirmation 7 times in the morning and 7 times in the evening for 7 consecutive days.

In the 369 methods, all you have to do is write your affirmation 3 times in the morning, 6 times in the afternoon and 9 times at night.

Pillow method:

As you can understand by its name, in the Pillow method all you have to do is to write your affirmation on a piece of paper and put it under your pillow at night. The reason is that few minutes before you fall asleep and when you wake up in the morning, these are the two times your mind is the most receptive which helps you to achieve your goal.

Scripting method:

This is a powerful method to manifest, in this method you have to write your goals in a very specific and detailed way in your journal or any piece of paper but all in the present tense, in a way that you have already manifested your goals.

Gwadar Port

Protests Surface in Pakistan:

Locals along with fishermen have started protest in Pakistan’s port city Gwadar. It is against China’s multibillion dollar Belt and Road Project (BRI) in the country. The protests are part of local people’s increasing discontent with China’s presence at Gwadar. The newspapers have reported that the deadly attack on a bus carrying Chinese engineers and workers that killed nine Chinese nationals in July was a sign of Pakistani’s growing resentment against the BRI.[1]

Background to the BRI Initiative:

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) a project adopted by CCP in 2013 and incorporated into the Constitution of China, 2017. Otherwise also referred to as the One Belt One Road (OBOR). It looks forward to infrastructural investment and development in almost 70 countries. The initiative to be completed by 2049.

“The BRI comprises a Silk Road Economic Belt – a trans-continental passage that links China with south east Asia, south Asia, Central Asia, Russia and Europe by land – and a 21st century Maritime Silk Road, a sea route connecting China’s coastal regions with south east and south Asia, the South Pacific, the Middle East and Eastern Africa, all the way to Europe.”[2]

However the covert expanse and motive of the project is self-evident. Thus, the BRI recognized as a Neo-imperialistic approach in the classical Chinese expansionist policy. The underlying motive is to expand China’s extra territorial influence over to distant European countries. Previously as well China has had similarly invested in various South Asian countries. In the name of development it eventually led to domination of the said countries.

Gwadar Port the Site of Unrest:

There is a strong discontent among the locals of Baluchistan residing near Gwadar port. This solely because of the presence of China at the Gwadar port. Large number of fishermen are protesting in the Pakistan’s Gwadar, where China is building a port. They are protesting against the Imran Khan government for granting Chinese fishing rights in Gwadar by issuing licenses.

Gwadar is an integral part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Project (CPEC). Therein China has invested billions in infrastructure project. Under the project Pakistan surrendered Gwadar port to a Chinese based multinational corporation for a lease of 40 years.

The protesters claim that there is a severe shortage of water and electricity. Further, they even assert that their livelihood is threatened due to the activities carried out by China under the CPEC in Pakistan.[3]

Voices of Dissent:

Two people injured when the authorities cracked down on the protesters.
A protester said that “We have been protesting and rallying against the Chinese trawlers, and shortage of water and electricity for over a month now. But the government never paid heed to our demands. We had to observe a complete shutdown strike and we were attacked by the district administration”

The protesters burned tyres chanted slogans and shutdown the city to demand water and electricity. They even demanded to stop illegal fishing by the Chinese trawlers in the nearby waters. The protests are part of growing discontent with the China’s presence in Gwadar whose port is an integral part of China Pakistan economy corridor project in which China has invested billions in infrastructure projects in Pakistan.[4]

Resistance from Political Parties and Civil Society:

The National Party and Baloch Student Organization had called for the protest rally and sit in in front of Gwadar Press Club against the Governments move.[5] Apart from fishermen political workers and members of civil society also participated in the protest. The participants of the rally marched on the roads of the coastal town and later staged the sit down.

The protesters said that the fishermen in the Gwadar have evacuated there fishing spots due to construction of Gwadar port. Through the project they were hoping that their economy condition would improve once the port was ready. However, now the Imran Khan government has issued licenses to Chinese trawlers which were badly affecting their livelihood.

A minister for fisheries for the Baluchistan state government alleged that the central government which has close ties with China granted Chinese vessels licenses to fish in the seas around Gwadar despite the cost to the local community.

However, this is not the first time when locals have demonstrated against Chinese trawlers. Earlier in July as well, in another protest hundreds of fishermen, political workers and members of civil society participated demanding to revoke Chinese fishing licenses. They aimed to defend the livelihood of Gwadar fishermen.

Conclusion:

These frequent protests show the discontent of the people of Gwadar against the promises made both by Pakistani government and Chinese government before the starting of the project. The Pakistani government along with the Chinese government promised a better life for the people living around Gwadar after the completion of the project.

Now the promises seem to be vague and empty. Presently Imran Khan government has issued licenses to Chinese trawlers which were badly affecting their livelihood. Also, Chinese trawlers have started illegal fishing in Pakistan’s territorial water in Gwadar thereby taking away livelihood of the fishermen. These growing backlashes against China presence in Gwadar should be seriously taken by the Pakistan government to maintain peace in the area.

Conclusively, when the public in particular not taken into confidence and decisions concerning them are not addressed, then protests like these become inevitable. The Pakistani government might turn a deaf ear to them or violently supress the resistance movement. However, the spark of dissent lives long and can potentially cause civil wars and mass aggression against the suppressive forces. Moreover, other countries that look forward to host the Chinese projects in name of development and advancement, too must take heed of such backlash spreading there as well.
