A major national security investigation has reportedly uncovered an alleged Pakistan-linked terror and espionage network with a possible connection to Sikkim. According to sources familiar with the investigation, a youth identified as Muhammad was arrested in Gangtok in connection with the case. The matter is currently under investigation, and court proceedings are underway.

Sources claim the suspect had been residing in Sikkim for several years and is being investigated for allegedly maintaining contact with Pakistan-based handlers through encrypted and proxy-based communication platforms. Investigators are examining allegations that sensitive information relating to military locations and other strategic installations may have been shared. These allegations have not been established in court.

According to sources, security personnel carried out a late-night operation at a pan shop and residence near Nam Nam Road in Gangtok before taking the suspect into custody. Residents in the area told our team that the family’s shop remained closed following the operation. Authorities have not officially released details of the raid.

Investigators are also examining alleged financial transactions and whether the suspect received money in connection with the alleged activities. Our team has not independently verified these claims.

The case has raised concerns due to Sikkim’s strategic importance as a border state. Security experts have long cautioned that hostile intelligence networks may attempt to exploit online communication platforms and recruit vulnerable individuals for espionage activities.

Officials are also examining whether the investigation has links to similar cases uncovered in other parts of the country. No official agency has publicly confirmed such a connection.

There are also unconfirmed reports regarding financial transactions. Our sources indicate that investigators are examining whether money was received in connection with the alleged activities. At this stage, we have not independently verified those claims.

Sources further allege that the accused facilitated espionage by sharing information relating to military locations and telecom-based verification systems. Investigators are continuing to examine these allegations.

Earlier, the NIA had warned about Pakistan-based networks allegedly targeting Indian juveniles and financially vulnerable individuals for espionage by offering monetary incentives. Investigators are examining whether there is any connection between this case and similar arrests made in other parts of India, including Punjab.

Authorities are reportedly probing allegations that sensitive information relating to military locations and border deployments may have been shared. Investigators are also looking into claims of an alleged covert surveillance network.
