D T Lepcha, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament (MP) from Sikkim, has been appointed as a member of the Joint Committee on Salaries and Allowances of Members of Parliament, according to an official notification. The committee, formed under the Salary, Allowances, and Pension of Members of Parliament Act, 1954, is responsible for drafting and reviewing rules concerning MPs’ salaries and allowances.

The Joint Committee holds the responsibility of evaluating and recommending changes to the existing remuneration structure for MPs, including travel, accommodation, medical benefits, and other facilities. Lepcha’s appointment marks a significant achievement for Sikkim, as his inclusion is expected to enhance the state’s representation at the national level in matters concerning MPs’ welfare and privileges.
