This entrepreneur from Sikkim Soars Providing In-Home Health Care, Testing in Time of Covid

With 500+ consumers in the beginning and operating in 4 towns, this startup is now providing home healthcare in Gangtok, Mangan, and other places.

The medical facilities in Sikkim may not have improved, but for the long, its imperfect shelter for those with non-urgent medical needs is perhaps the last place you want to be amid a pandemic in Sikkim.

Covid-19 has aggravated an already broken Sikkim’s healthcare system in which at least 30% of emergency department visits were deemed unneeded before the virus’s arrival. Patients with less urgent conditions often wait hours for care, and they’re usually left with a hefty bill. Now, a new healthcare model is seeking to bridge the gap between clinical care and telemedicine, offering hands-on medical aid inside people’s homes.

In a time of Covid, a company known simply as Ready is logging more than 500+ visits and delivered medicine to 400+ a month to patients in Gangtok, Majhitar, Rangpo, Mangan, and Singtam. When called, Ready quickly dispatches a Responder, who’s in connection with 20+ doctors and some paramedic, to a patient’s home. They also do blood sample collection from home and other medical support.

Healbridge a Sikkim-based startup started by two young entrepreneurs named Karan Singh and Sumesh Chettri in September 2020 as a home medicine delivery to the patient in Gangtok. Healbridge is supported by AICTBI- SMU.

“Covid 2.0 accelerated a trend that had already begun, which is a shift from institutional brick-and-mortar urgent care to the home setting,” according to Heal Bridge founder, Karan Singh.

“It’s necessary for people in Gangtok to know we can provide their medical services to the home they just need to call and send us paper but it’s impressive to see the organization rise to the challenge of providing care in the most difficult of times, in places and to populations that other companies have not focused on.” Said One Doctor from Gangtok who also works with healbridge.

In this pandemic, the business has become a model Startup for Healthcare, drawn new ideas and talent, and fueled the company’s growth. With Covid-19, HealBridge use has reached record highs in just one state. As soon, the situation goes normal they are looking forward to entering into rural healthcare in partnership with some Healthcare.

Last month, as a flood of virus cases, pushed Sikkim to a breaking point, the Honourable Chief Minister of Sikkim pleaded during a news briefing about lockdown which was extended for two weeks later caused many people can’t go outside to buy medicine and Healbridge was helping to deliver medicine at affordable home delivery cost.

In 2021, Ready intends to dispatch an experimental run program that will permit in excess of 100 doctors to dispatch responders into their patients’ homes. “We’re working in an innovation stage that can be grown in every city and scale high to create reforming healthcare, Founder Karan said.

“You can expect that at last individuals will approach Ready Responders in each town in NorthEast in the future.”

Heavy rainfall forecast in Sikkim as monsoon reaches Northeast.

Advancing further, the Southwest Monsoon covered the northeast region, nearly four days after its normal date, India. 

RK Jenamani, senior scientist, NWFC Said “Monsoon is advancing very well. It has advanced to Sikkim and parts of Maharashtra 4 to 5 days in advance. The monsoon flow is strong and southwesterly winds have picked up on a large scale” 

There will be likely heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh on June 6 and 8 June.

And around Assam, Meghalaya, and upper Himalayas of West Bengal and Sikkim on 8th June and 9th June.

Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura on 6th June and 7th June.

Odisha on 8th June and 9th June Gangetic West Bengal on 10th June. Strong surface winds (25-35 kmph) are likely to prevail over the plains of northwest India during 8th and 10th June. 

IMD has classified that the progress is going to slow over the next two days, i.e 7th June and 8th June.

Sikkim has been witnessing heavy rainfall since yesterday morning causing heavy damage in Gangtok areas due to landslides. It’s also reported that landslide appeared in Some parts of North Sikkim which also caused east and north connecting bridge.

भाषा बाँच्छ प्रयोगमा, प्रयोग गर्छ वक्ताले। वक्ता ऊ हो जसले भाषाद्वारा आफ्नो मनको कुरा व्यक्त गर्छ। व्यक्त गरिएको कुरा सुन्ने व्यक्तिलाई श्रोता भनिन्छ। भाषा प्रयोग दुई किसिमले गरिन्छ- बोलेर र लेखेर। बोलेर व्यक्त गरिने भाषालाई ‘कथ्य भाषा’ भनिन्छ, लेखेर व्यक्त गरिने भाषालाई ‘लेख्य भाषा’ भनिन्छ।

भाषाकै कारणले मान्छे विचारशील र विवेकशील प्राणी मानिन्छ। यही भाषाद्वारा उसले सोच्छ, कल्पना गर्छ, हाँस्छ। भोक लाग्नु, जाडो लाग्नु, निद्रा लाग्नु, घुम्न मन लाग्नु, माया लाग्नु जस्ता विभिन्न भाव र इच्छाहरूलाई उसले भाषाद्वारा व्यक्त गर्छ। तर यो भाषा मान्छेको सभ्यतासित धेरै पछि आएर विकास भएको देखिन्छ। सुरु सुरुमा मान्छेले आफ्ना मनका भावहरू हातको इसाराले, सङ्केतद्वारा प्रकट गर्दथे। यस्ता माध्यमलाई सङ्केत भाषाको रूपमा मानव समाजमा बाँचेको देखिन्छ। समयको गतिसितै मान्छेले लिपिको विकास गरे र ती लिपिहरू चित्रात्मक हुन्थे। मानव समाजमा यसरी सभ्यताको विकाससितै भाषाको जन्म भएको पाइन्छ।

भाषाको विकास सामाजिक प्रक्रियाबाट हुन्छ। अर्थात् समाजमा जति यसको प्रयोग हुन्छ उति भाषा विकसित बन्दै जान्छlmnm र भाषा समाजमा बाँच्छ। यही भाषा आज मान्छेको महत्त्वपूर्ण परिचय पनि बनेको छ।

21औँ शताब्दीका मानिसहरूले गर्ने भाषा प्रयोगमाथि ठुलो हस्तक्षेप डिजिटल वर्ल्डले गर्दै आएको देखिन्छ। यसबाट सर्वाधिक प्रभावित छ आजको युवा पिँढी र विद्यार्थी नानीहरू। सामाजिक सञ्जालले आज युवा पिँढीलाई आफ्नो मातृभाषा प्रयोगमा ठुलो वाधा पुर्‍याउने साधन बनेको छ इमोजी (Emoji)। इमोजीका विभिन्न सङ्केत र रूपहरूले प्रयोगकर्तालाई भाषा प्रयोग गर्नमा वाधा पुर्‍याएर पुनः उहिलेको प्रस्तर युगमा पुर्‍याएको छ। यसप्रति ध्यान कसैको गएको देखिँदैन। खुसी हुँदा व्यक्त गरिने शब्द लेखिएको हुँदैन अघि नै इमोजीका हँसिलो अनुहारको नक्सा आइहाल्छ। कुरा सही हो भनेर लेख्न मन लाग्दा औँलाको थम्स अपको नक्सा आइहाल्छ।

मानव संवेदना र भावनाका विभिन्न तरङ्गहरूलाई इमोजीले सञ्चालन र नियन्त्रण गरिरहेको यस सङ्कटमय स्थितिमा विशेषतः विद्यार्थीहरू सचेत हुन पर्नेछ। मानव सभ्यताको सुन्दरतम सिर्जना र उपलब्धि भनेको नै भाषा हो। नेपाली भाषालाई आजको डिजिटल वर्ल्डले हामीदेखि टाढा लगिरहेको छ भन्ने कुरा बुझेर यसमाथि गहन चिन्ता गर्नपर्ने समय आएको छ।

मातृभाषा बाँचे हामी बाँच्छौँ, हामी बाँचे यो समाज बाँच्छ, समाज बाँचे भाषा पनि बाँच्छ। भोलिको दिन हामीसित मातृभाषा नै नरहे भाषाविहीन समाज कस्तो हुन्छ त्यसको कल्पना पनि गर्न सकिँदैन। भाषाबिनाको मान्छे बाँचेर पनि के गर्ने, त्यसको कुनै औचित्य र उद्देश्य हुँदैन।

इमोजीले मान्छेलाई सङ्केतहरूको इसारामा नै निर्भरशील बनाइराखे, हामीदेखि नेपाली भाषा त्यसै हराएर जानेछ, हाम्रो मातृभाषा हामीले प्रयोग नगरे अरू कसैले गर्ने छैन। भाषालाई प्रेम गरौँ, यसको मर्म बुझौँ र सधैँ नेपाली भाषा नै प्रयोग गरौँ।

On searching, brown sugar weighing 10.85 gms seized in Geyzing| 2 held.

The Sikkim Police has seized brown sugar weighing 10.85 gms in the West Sikkim’s Geyzing and arrested two drug peddlers in this connection, a senior officer said on Saturday.

Acting on a tip-off from reliable sources Geyzing police nabbed two peddlers with 10.85 gms of brown sugar.

On 04/06/2021 the police team traced a taxi wagon R which had been halted at the waiting shed, Legship Bazar.

Two persons namely Aeun Subba and Mukesh Mudak were the occupants of the vehicle. On searching Brown Sugar 10.85 gms were recovered from their possession.

The two were on police radar since complaints had been received against both for peddling drugs in and around Geyzing, Legship, and Kewzing areas.

Both were taken in custody and cases have been filed accordingly under relevant sections.

NHPC, Teesta-V Power Station, Sikkim observed World Environment Day on 5th June 2021 at its Residential Township in Balutar and Samdong Colony. As part of the observance, Shri Sanjay Darbari, Head of the Power Station, planted an Areca Palm sapling along with enthusiastic participation of officers and staff of the Power Station, in the extension of Herbal Park located near the helipad.

The event was observed by following COVID 19 guidelines. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Sanjay Darbari said that Resettinghumanity’s relationship with Nature will be the focus of World Environment Day on 5th June 2021, which also marks the launch of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, a ten-year global push to prevent, halt and reverse ecosystem degradation. Ecosystem restoration can help protect and improve livelihoods,regulate disease, reduce the risk of natural disasters and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

He further said that the symbiotic relationship between humans and other species has to be nurtured as human health is linked to the Ecosystem. The present COVID 19 Pandemic is a reminder to all of us of the consequences of human activity-induced damage to nature. He urged all participants to strive to live in harmony with Nature.

Protective Wall Binding Teesta Collapses Posing Threat For Erosions.

The recent incessant rains in the state have transformed small streams into raging torrents and increased the water volumes of big Rivers like Teesta. The sudden rise in water level is an alarming bell for a few disasters in making. A portion of the protective wall guiding the flow of the Teesta has been washed away. A complete washout is evident if not taken care of and we are only in the first week of June.

The illegal quarrying, sand mining and breaking up of river boulders is the main reason for rivers to change courses and pose a threat. If this issue is not addressed at the earliest, the under-construction via-duct might be damaged.

Also, the settlements near the river belts are always at a threat during every monsoon. Most of the river belts in Sikkim have been plundered by sand mafias and river boulders broken down by stone breakers to feed them into the illegal crusher plants mushrooming in every nook and corner along the riverside. Sikkim is inviting a catastrophe and this will be man-made and not natural.

Lt. General (Dr) MD Venkatesh takes over as Pro-Chancellor, Sikkim Manipal University

GANGTOK, 6th June 2021: Lt. General (Dr.) MD Venkatesh has been appointed as the Pro-Chancellor of Sikkim Manipal University (SMU), in addition to his onerous responsibility as Vice-Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education.

He has taken over from Shri Rajen Padukone, erstwhile Pro Chancellor, SMU, who was also Group President (Academia) of Manipal Education & Medical Group (MEMG). Shri Padukone has served with distinction with his vast and rich experience of over 40 years, in the diverse fields of education, healthcare, banking, financial services and manufacturing sectors, all over the country. He has been a mentor par excellence for the entire SMU team.
Lt Gen (Dr) MD Venkatesh needs no introduction to Sikkim. He had a distinguished tenure as the Vice-Chancellor, SMU from 01 July 2017 till 30 June 2020. As Vice-Chancellor, Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), he ably leads the globally reputed, Institution of Eminence. He graduated from Mysore Medical College, Karnataka, in 1978, with an exceptional academic track record. He was commissioned in Army Medical Corps in 1979, followed by meritorious service of almost four decades. He excelled at the MS (ENT) course from Mumbai University, in 1986. He is acclaimed as an outstanding ENT Surgeon, who has held many prestigious academic, instructional, command, managerial, staff and administrative appointments in the armed forces medical services. He has optimally leveraged his training in cochlear implantation and neuro-otology in India and abroad, for the benefit of his patients, colleagues & students. He has made a commendable impact in the field of medical education, having trained many generations of undergraduate and postgraduate students at the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) Pune; and other renowned tertiary care PG teaching hospitals. He has the unique distinction of holding, all the important academic positions at AFMC, from Assoc Professor (ENT) to Dean. He was also a founder faculty of the Department of Medical Education Technology at AFMC. He has been an Examiner & Inspector of MCI (now NMC) & National Board of Examinations.

Dr. Venkatesh spearheaded SMU as a highly respected Vice Chancellor, wherein he was instrumental in the quantum improvement in many academic processes, qualitative healthcare (at CRH), facilities and IT infrastructure of SMU. He is an epitome of inspiring leadership qualities and team building skills and shaped ‘Team SMU’ as a cohesive and reputed multi-disciplinary higher education institution. Ok, so we have the lockdown extended till the 31st. The ration and vegetable shops along with milk vending shops open from 8-11 AM. So nice and soothing to hear that, It is only a temporary respite though. The worst is yet to come.

The Administration in Sikkim seems to lack for-sightedness. Till now the mismanagement in Health Sector was distinctly visible, but with the passage of time, The Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department along with Animal Husbandry and Livestock Development Department has started to show its true colors.

With so much happening, both this department have shown no intent at all to come to the rescue of the common masses. They have not come up yet with a notification to state that black marketing of essential commodities and livestock feed with being strictly dealt with.

Neither have they shown any urgency. Letting the shops open is only a half-done job.

Santa Bdr Manger, a taxi driver by profession, who has 21 installments amounting to Rs 14,000/- each pending in the finance company has started to have sleepless nights.

He has already missed on his EMI when his wife gave birth to a child in the month of March. He could not do much then, since he had to attend to his expecting wife. With the advent of the Tourism season, he had hoped to work extra and make up for the loss, but with the announcement of the ban on entry of tourists, trouble started.

The announcement of Lockdown added salt to the wound. The taxi is parked in his courtyard. There are no takers at the present. Income from fare is nil. But the phone calls from the financing agency are not stopping.

During the first lockdown, the GOI had announced a moratorium on all loans. But this time no such arrangements have been made.
