DEATH ON WHEELS? MADE IN INDIA SWIFT SCORES ZERO IN LATIN NCAP TEST

0
Death on wheel

With increased discussions related to safer cars in developing countries, primarily due to increased awareness regarding safety. Car manufactures have started to provide safer cars even in under-developed nations. But the recently tested “Made in India” 2021 Suzuki Swift scored 0 on the Latin NCAP test. These results put a big question mark on the claims of companies that they are improving safety standards in their cars.

WHAT IS THE LATIN NCAP TEST?

The word NCAP stands for New Car Assessment Program. This is a sort of car safety program designed to test the newly made automobiles for their response against various safety issues/threats. It was initially made and utilized in the US in 1979 to encourage companies for producing safer cars.

The Latin NCAP tests the cars sold in the Latin America and Caribbean Islands. It was launched in 2010 and tested over 120 cars. This test has different parameters as compared to the Global NCAP test which tests cars all over the globe.

SUZUKI SWIFT NCAP RESULTS

The India and Japan manufactured Suzuki Swift which comes with standard two airbags scored a zero in Latin NCAP. With this score, it joins the Renault Duster who had also scored a zero in Latin NCAP. Interestingly, Swift and Duster had scored two and three stars respectively in Global NCAP tests.

The popular hatchback, Swift has achieved 15.53%, 0% and 66.07% in the protection of adult occupant, Child occupant and Pedestrian protection respectively. These results assumed to be applicable for both the hatchback and sedan versions of Swift.

Further, as per the reports released by the crash test agency, the car lacked adequate side impact protection, standard side head airbags and lack Child Restraint Systems.

SUBSTANDARD CARS IN DEVELOPING NATIONS?

The Swift sold in the European Markets comes with 6 airbags and Electronic Stability Control as standards. Some of these features are not provided even in the top models sold in India. The majority of car manufactures accused of selling substandard cars in India. In order to make the car more affordable, they do cost-cutting in basic safety features like ESC and airbags. As of today, only 3 cars M&M XUV300, Tata Altroz and Tata Nexon, sold in India have scored a 5-star rating in the Global NCAP test.

Above all, the Government of India has been pushing car manufactures to increase their safety standards. Recently, the Transport Ministry had made it compulsory to offer two airbags and ABS as standard in all cars. A crash test similar to Global NCAP called BHARAT NCAP is proposed to the Ministry for the final nod.

MANIFESTATION: TRUE OR NOT

0
"Manifestation"

Do you know that you can achieve your desires by your positive thinking? Seems impossible? Well, it is 100% true.

Have you guys heard of the technique Manifestation? If no then voila! this article is for you guys only and if yes then also there is no problem in gaining extra knowledge.

WHAT IS MANIFESTATION?

Turning your desires into a full reality can be called manifestation. In psychology, manifestation generally means using our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs to bring something to our physical reality. In simpler terms manifestation is the conscious creation of the circumstances and outcomes that make for a fulfilling life.

 [berkelywellbeing.com]

Manifestation is related to Law of attraction but it does not mean that the law of attraction and manifestation are kind of the same because they are not. There is an explicit difference between the two.

The Law of attraction:

It means that you are attracting something in your life because you are focused on getting that thing. It means you will attract the things you focus on. In short like attracts like.

Unlike the law of attraction, manifestation means harnessing the power of your thoughts, desires, feelings knowingly or purposely in reality.

Now let’s take an example:

“The other day, I really wanted this dress, but it was $115, so I said to myself in my head, ‘I got $115. That’s great! I have the dress,’” Simoni said. “The same day, I went over to my dad’s house, and he asked me if I wanted a gift card for $120. I wasn’t expecting this because my parents usually never give me money.”

[thecampanile.org]

You can manifest anything, be it a job, money, your partner, love, anything you desire. But here is the things that do not doubt our thoughts while manifesting them. If you believe in it then only you can achieve it. Surround yourself with positive energy and positive surroundings.

One more thing is don’t just write things, sit down and wait that your desires will come to you by doing nothing. Do your work, take action, act on achieving your goal.

This is the main misconception among people that their desires manifest themselves without doing anything. Don’t think this.

HOW TO MANIFEST:

There are many ways or you can say more than one technique to manifest desires. But the common thing in all the techniques is to write everything in the present tense.

55 x 5 manifestation technique:

In this method, all you have to do is to first pick your affirmation that sums up your desire in short and then write down your affirmation on paper 55 times for 5 days regularly. This is because writing it that much time helps to reinforce the importance of your goal in your mind so that it remains on the top of your list.

333 & 777 & 369 manifestation technique:

In the 333 manifestation method you have to do the same thing just like the 55 x 5 method but this time you have to write your affirmation 33 times for 3 days.

Further, in the 777 manifestation method, you have to write your affirmation 7 times in the morning and 7 times in the evening for 7 consecutive days.

In the 369 methods, all you have to do is write your affirmation 3 times in the morning, 6 times in the afternoon and 9 times at night.

Pillow method:

As you can understand by its name, in the Pillow method all you have to do is to write your affirmation on a piece of paper and put it under your pillow at night. The reason is that few minutes before you fall asleep and when you wake up in the morning, these are the two times your mind is the most receptive which helps you to achieve your goal.

Scripting method:

This is a powerful method to manifest, in this method you have to write your goals in a very specific and detailed way in your journal or any piece of paper but all in the present tense, in a way that you have already manifested your goals.

Gwadar Port

Protests Surface in Pakistan:

Locals along with fishermen have started protest in Pakistan’s port city Gwadar. It is against China’s multibillion dollar Belt and Road Project (BRI) in the country. The protests are part of local people’s increasing discontent with China’s presence at Gwadar. The newspapers have reported that the deadly attack on a bus carrying Chinese engineers and workers that killed nine Chinese nationals in July was a sign of Pakistani’s growing resentment against the BRI.[1]

Background to the BRI Initiative:

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) a project adopted by CCP in 2013 and incorporated into the Constitution of China, 2017. Otherwise also referred to as the One Belt One Road (OBOR). It looks forward to infrastructural investment and development in almost 70 countries. The initiative to be completed by 2049.

“The BRI comprises a Silk Road Economic Belt – a trans-continental passage that links China with south east Asia, south Asia, Central Asia, Russia and Europe by land – and a 21st century Maritime Silk Road, a sea route connecting China’s coastal regions with south east and south Asia, the South Pacific, the Middle East and Eastern Africa, all the way to Europe.”[2]

However the covert expanse and motive of the project is self-evident. Thus, the BRI recognized as a Neo-imperialistic approach in the classical Chinese expansionist policy. The underlying motive is to expand China’s extra territorial influence over to distant European countries. Previously as well China has had similarly invested in various South Asian countries. In the name of development it eventually led to domination of the said countries.

Gwadar Port the Site of Unrest:

There is a strong discontent among the locals of Baluchistan residing near Gwadar port. This solely because of the presence of China at the Gwadar port. Large number of fishermen are protesting in the Pakistan’s Gwadar, where China is building a port. They are protesting against the Imran Khan government for granting Chinese fishing rights in Gwadar by issuing licenses.

Gwadar is an integral part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Project (CPEC). Therein China has invested billions in infrastructure project. Under the project Pakistan surrendered Gwadar port to a Chinese based multinational corporation for a lease of 40 years.

The protesters claim that there is a severe shortage of water and electricity. Further, they even assert that their livelihood is threatened due to the activities carried out by China under the CPEC in Pakistan.[3]

Voices of Dissent:

Two people injured when the authorities cracked down on the protesters.
A protester said that “We have been protesting and rallying against the Chinese trawlers, and shortage of water and electricity for over a month now. But the government never paid heed to our demands. We had to observe a complete shutdown strike and we were attacked by the district administration”

The protesters burned tyres chanted slogans and shutdown the city to demand water and electricity. They even demanded to stop illegal fishing by the Chinese trawlers in the nearby waters. The protests are part of growing discontent with the China’s presence in Gwadar whose port is an integral part of China Pakistan economy corridor project in which China has invested billions in infrastructure projects in Pakistan.[4]

Resistance from Political Parties and Civil Society:

The National Party and Baloch Student Organization had called for the protest rally and sit in in front of Gwadar Press Club against the Governments move.[5] Apart from fishermen political workers and members of civil society also participated in the protest. The participants of the rally marched on the roads of the coastal town and later staged the sit down.

The protesters said that the fishermen in the Gwadar have evacuated there fishing spots due to construction of Gwadar port. Through the project they were hoping that their economy condition would improve once the port was ready. However, now the Imran Khan government has issued licenses to Chinese trawlers which were badly affecting their livelihood.

A minister for fisheries for the Baluchistan state government alleged that the central government which has close ties with China granted Chinese vessels licenses to fish in the seas around Gwadar despite the cost to the local community.

However, this is not the first time when locals have demonstrated against Chinese trawlers. Earlier in July as well, in another protest hundreds of fishermen, political workers and members of civil society participated demanding to revoke Chinese fishing licenses. They aimed to defend the livelihood of Gwadar fishermen.

Conclusion:

These frequent protests show the discontent of the people of Gwadar against the promises made both by Pakistani government and Chinese government before the starting of the project. The Pakistani government along with the Chinese government promised a better life for the people living around Gwadar after the completion of the project.

Now the promises seem to be vague and empty. Presently Imran Khan government has issued licenses to Chinese trawlers which were badly affecting their livelihood. Also, Chinese trawlers have started illegal fishing in Pakistan’s territorial water in Gwadar thereby taking away livelihood of the fishermen. These growing backlashes against China presence in Gwadar should be seriously taken by the Pakistan government to maintain peace in the area.

Conclusively, when the public in particular not taken into confidence and decisions concerning them are not addressed, then protests like these become inevitable. The Pakistani government might turn a deaf ear to them or violently supress the resistance movement. However, the spark of dissent lives long and can potentially cause civil wars and mass aggression against the suppressive forces. Moreover, other countries that look forward to host the Chinese projects in name of development and advancement, too must take heed of such backlash spreading there as well.

Women’s Rights and lives at risk under the new Taliban’s Sharia Law

Women Under Islam
Women’s Rights and lives at risk under the new Taliban’s Islam Law

Background:

Afghanistan is the country that was once called the Graveyard of Empires in the year 1990s. This is probably the only country in the world where peace does not last long. War has been the misfortune of this country. Afghanistan has suffered it from time to time and now it has again reached where it was 20 years ago.

Further it is a country that has seen many phases of the war. In 1893 and 1919, the British rule fought three wars over Afghanistan. The First Anglo-Afghan War was the war in which the British Army entered the country in large numbers. When the Hindukush hills are covered with snow in winter, the British Army carried out the massacre in Afghanistan. In 1842, 4500 soldiers died and about 12000 civilians were killed. The Second Anglo-Afghan War fought between 1878 and 1880. In 1919, the Third Afghan-Anglo War took place.

For decades, Afghanistan was a laboratory for the most powerful countries in the world to show their strength and power. After the 9/11, the way America’s army stepped, it was believed that the situation could be better. However, it could not happen.

Present situation:

The current situation in Afghanistan is that the Taliban has taken control of the whole of Afghanistan including Kandahar and its capital Kabul. US-trained soldiers of Afghanistan are running from their own country to save their lives. These soldiers are hiding in Tajikistan and Turkmenistan to save their lives. Even Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has left the country.

With the Taliban taking over the Afghan capital, Kabul, thousands of people have started leaving the country. Most of them include those who fear the harsh and brutal regime of the Taliban. Taliban leaders themselves have said that Afghanistan will no longer be a democracy. It will be run under the Sharia law of Islam. Sharia Law is the legal system of Islam from the book of Islam, Quran, Sunnah and Hadith. The literal meaning of Sharia is ‘a clear and orderly way of water’.

Taliban repression:

The thinking of the Taliban is very radical and conservative. Hence, even after assurances, people believe that the Taliban rule will be very violent and repressive. When Taliban leaders were talking about giving rights to women after taking Kabul, even at that time Taliban men shot and killed a woman for not wearing a hijab. In such a situation, the question arises the Taliban gets the right to kill someone under Sharia law?

Condition of Women:

After conquering Afghanistan, Taliban groups are hunting for sex slaves and are targeting youngsters as young as 12 years old. Taliban leaders are said to regard unmarried — or widowed — women and girls between the ages of 12 and 45 as “qhanimat,” or spoils of war and they are to be distributed among their warriors. Taliban gunmen are said to have already killed a lady wearing “tight clothes”. Women in other places instructed they must leave the house with a male guardian. After taking control of the provinces of Badakhshan and Takhar in early July, Taliban officials issued an order to local religious authorities to give them a list of females over the age of 15 and widows under the age of 45 for marriage with Taliban fighters.

Before the arrival of US forces in Afghanistan (until about 20 years ago) there was already a Taliban regime. During that time, women imprisoned in their homes under restricted rules. While, when it comes to male friends, women are absolutely not allowed to meet boys above the age of 12 and men from outside the family.

Previous standing:

In the previous Taliban regime, education was allowed for women, but they were absolutely not allowed to attend normal schools, colleges and madrasas where men also study. Not only this, singing is prohibited under Sharia. The Taliban are known to inflict severe punishment on women who are interested in singing and dancing. Apart from this, the modelling of women is also strictly prohibited. The printing of photos and posters of women in any newspaper or book is also prohibited.

Women are not allowed to dress up under the Taliban regime. According to the law, it is mandatory for girls above 8 years to wear a burqa while going out with a male member of the family. Apart from this, it is necessary for them to be in a burqa even while talking to someone else outside the house. There are also restrictions on women wearing high-heels. According to the law, women should walk in such a way that no one can hear the sound of their feet.

The Taliban are notorious for giving harsh punishment to women who break Sharia law. Women who broke strict Sharia rules during the previous regime were punished with public torture, whipping and stoning to death in the crowd. In the coming times, we can only hope and expect that the self-esteem of women living in Afghanistan is not hurt. Above all, at the present time, it does not seem to be possible.

TIME OUTWEIGHS MONEY

“Time outweighs money” – what does it mean? If you are thinking that it means time is more important than money, then you are wrong. I am not here for a debate if time is more important or money.

Let’s take an example-

You are out for a Sunday bike ride on your favorite biking path, and you come across a pair of kids selling lemonade. Do you stop and buy some lemonade? Do you like the lemonade? Does your buying or liking the lemonade have anything to do with the wording on the sign next to the lemonade stand? Apparently so.

[BUSINESS INSIDER]

Cassie Mogilner and Jennifer Aaker from the Stanford Graduate School of Business conducted an experiment to whether references to time or references to money, which one of the above will more likely attract people to buy, how many of them will pay and how many will be satisfied?

EXPERIMENT CONDUCTED:

Sometimes a sign says, “Spend a little time, and enjoy C & D’s lemonade”. This is the “time” condition. Sometimes the sign says, “Spend a little money, and enjoy C & D’s lemonade” (money condition). Finally, there is a control condition where the sign said, “Enjoy C & D’s lemonade”.

391 people passed by either walking or on bikes. Those who stopped to purchase lemonade ranged in age from 14-50 years old, and there was a mix of gender, occupations etc. Customers could pay anywhere between $1 and $3 for a cup of lemonade — they could decide the price. The authors comment that the high price was justified by the fact that the customers got to keep the high quality plastic cup. After customers drank their lemonade they also completed a survey.

More people stopped buying lemonade when the sign mentioned time (14%). In fact twice as many people stopped when the time was mentioned than when money was mentioned (7%). In addition, customers in the time condition paid more money for the lemonade (on average $2.50) compared to the money condition (on average $1.38). Interestingly, the control condition was in between on both of people stopping to purchase and the average price. In other words, mentioning time brought the most customers and the most money, mentioning money brought the least customers and the least money, and mentioning neither was in between. The same effect was true when customers filled out the satisfaction survey.

[BUSINESS INSIDER]

Now the above experiment proves our line that “time outweighs money”. People are more likely to buy if the time is mentioned rather than money.

WHY IS THAT?

As time is connected with our personal connection and money relates to materialistic things. So when we read something which mentions time instead of money that chances of our brain are more likely to connect with that thing. Thus, likely to attach with their purchases if there is a personal connection. The reason behind this is that time accentuates experiences and experience makes the personal connection.

But it is not true in every situation. There are people out there who value possession more than experiences. For them, their personal connection is money, not time. So know your audience well and use your words wisely to attract your target audience.

How sports is Affiliated to economics.

When you look closely at your favourite sport these days, it’s difficult to ignore the influence of economics. It is visible in the way players are paid. As well as individual coaching decisions and even strategic shifts across entire leagues.

Game Theory:

This fueled in part by the rise of game theory in economics. The game theory employs mathematical models to determine optimal strategies. For instance, at where a baseball pitcher should throw or whether American Football teams should pass more frequently.

As players, coaches, and agents behave similarly to the hypothetical rational decision-makers in economic models, sport lends itself to economics and game theory.

The Economics of Public Relations Professional sports economics. If you’ve seen or read Moneyball, you’ll understand how economics is useful in putting together a team . The following is the true story of Billy Beane, the former general manager of the Oakland A’s baseball team. Beane rose to prominence for his use of economic concepts to identify undervalued players.

Baseball scouts and agents were frequently preoccupied with trivial matters such as how hard a player could hit a ball. Billy Beane used advanced statistics to identify undervalued players and play them in ways that maximised their strengths.

In basketball, Robert D. Tollison is largely responsible for the National Basketball Association’s surge in three-point shooting. The National Basketball Association is a professional basketball league based in the United States. Tollison’s research discovered that, while three-pointers are less accurate than other shots, taking more three-pointers over the course of a game and season makes sense.

Economists have been hired in some cases to solve specific problems. For example, the AFL was concerned about clubs “tanking” (intentionally losing) in order to obtain favourable draught picks (not mentioning any names, Melbourne).

As a result, the AFL commissioned Melbourne University Economics Professor Jeff Borland to develop an objective measure of club performance (based on team performance, win-loss ratios, previous finals appearances and injuries).

However, sports economics aren’t just for academics.

Gymming

Today, the gym and fitness industry is flourishing in the country with many national and international players mushrooming in the segment. To some extent, the credit for this boom goes to the Bollywood actors and divas, who flaunt their well-groomed bodies and muscles on-screen and inspire many youngsters. However, there are various other major factors behind the popularity of fitness gyms in the country.

Growing Health and Fitness Awareness:

These days, an increasing number of individuals are going to gyms to counter the side-effects of their hectic urban lifestyles. It is necessary too. Exercise increases cardiovascular fitness and boosts overall health. Also, regular workouts help in reducing stress, anxiety and depression and other diseases affecting health.

Further, rising cases of osteoporosis and lowering of bone density are also prompting people to take health, diet, and fitness seriously. Earlier, only the men showed interest in the gyms, but today even women are hitting the gyms. Thanks to the access to the internet, TV and growing education levels, there has been a paradigm shift in the perspective of everyone, including women, who now consider exercising a serious affair.

Age is No Bar for Fitness?

Through multiple sources like doctors, researchers etc., we are constantly reminded about the benefits of exercising, which is right too. People of every age group, from the 20s through the 60s and beyond, need to work hard to remain fit. Also, it needs to be kept in mind that the human body has different requirements at different ages and ageing is an indispensable part of life. Realizing this and coming to terms with the fact that those who exercise regularly are happier and healthier compared to those who don’t, people are increasingly hitting the gyms.

Penetration of International Brands:

Increased cases of obesity and diabetes have led to a revolution in the Indian fitness industry. If we look around, we will find that weight loss advertisements are everywhere. This is one of the main reasons behind the growth of health clubs and gym memberships in the country.

A preventive approach to health care has not only led to an increase in demand for services but products too. Big and established fitness chains and gyms are expanding their products and services portfolios to tap into the market in every possible manner and reach out to potential customers. Many such companies have acquired public equity to fuel their growth plans. Given the growing demand, franchising of fitness gyms is also catching up fast. Multinational fitness chains and gyms are increasingly taking the franchisee route to enter the Indian market.

The Growth of Gym Culture

The gym culture which is at an infancy stage in India at present is growing at a very fast pace as more and more people are joining the gym movement for great health and long life. A large number of Indians in metros and Tier-II cities are fast becoming health conscious and have started hitting the gyms. While the gym culture is apparent in urban areas and metros, it still needs to catch up in Tier-III cities and smaller towns and villages of the country.

Gradually, they are embracing the gym culture and gyms are increasingly becoming a necessity for people to lead a healthy life. People who come to gyms have different targets in mind. While some come for power enhancement, others seek to build a fit body. There is yet another lot which is a gym addict. They visit the gym regularly and don’t like to miss it at all. Having said that, the gym culture will surely get a boost in the future.

Access to a Variety of Equipment:

One of the biggest advantages of joining a gym is the availability of a wide array of equipment including cardio machines, strength machines, weights, boxing kits and various functional training gears (TRX, fit balls, resistance bands etc.) that aid in regular exercise. It is this primary reason that drives many fitness freaks to the gym.

Availability of Personalised Fitness Training Programmes:

In the present times, people don’t hesitate in spending quite a sizeable amount for looking and feeling good. The sheer number of people hitting the gyms is a testimony to this trend. However, not everyone knows what exercise to do, how to do it, when to do it, what to eat etc. Here the role of a personalized fitness training program comes to play. One of the other most important reasons why people need a personal trainer is that they help bring accountability and sincerity.

Also, personalized training helps one to keep up to the target and follow a systematic workout module to suit their respective fitness needs and goals. It also provides professional advice on techniques and the importance of correct equipment and diet. Hence, today, personal fitness training has become the new mantra in the fitness industry. Now, working out with a personal fitness trainer is not just for the elite or stars. Nor it is a costly affair anymore.

Rise in Personal Disposable Income:

Earlier, spending on fitness and taking gym membership was seen as a luxury, but now it has become a part of people’s lifestyle. Growing urbanization, rising middle class, and increasing disposable incomes are boosting the need for gyms. Further, since the young working-age population with adequate disposable income in hand is leading a sedentary lifestyle, thereby, attracting various diseases, the demand for gyms is only expected to move northwards….

Government Allocation on Health and Fitness has Increased drastically:

In recent years, healthcare has become one of India’s largest sectors, both in terms of revenue and employment. Healthcare comprises hospitals, medical devices, clinical trials, outsourcing, telemedicine, medical tourism, health insurance and medical equipment. Out of the total market, the fitness and slimming industry comprise Rs 60 billion. Fitness equipment also forms a major segment in focus. This segment comprises retail and wholesale sellers of gym equipment like dumbbells, treadmills etc. Even fitness service in the form of gyms has got a major boost from the government.

As a result of all the above factors, the gym and fitness industry in the country is seeing bright days at present and further has golden days ahead. Poised to grow by 20-30 per cent every year, this sunrise industry has ample growth opportunities for established and emerging players in the segment.

Pollution:

Increased pollution has always been a major issue in the capital (Delhi). According to a WHO survey of 1,650 cities in the world, the air quality in Delhi is the worst of all the major cities in the world, this also affects the area around Delhi. Air pollution in India is estimated to cause around 2 million deaths every year; it is the fifth leading cause of death in India. According to the World Health Organization, India has the highest mortality rate from chronic respiratory diseases and asthma in the world. In Delhi, poor quality air irreversibly damaged the lungs of 2.2 million or 50% of all children.

Tree Plantation drive:

On Tuesday, Imran Hussein, the Minister of Food and Civil Supplies of Delhi, started a tree planting activity at Jamia Hamdard University to plant Amaltas saplings. The minister said in a statement that the Delhi government “has launched a war against air pollution throughout the year”.

The Delhi government has taken a number of measures to curb air pollution in the city, such as implementing tree transplant policies, dust pollution prevention campaigns, electric vehicle policies, red light, Gedi Pass campaign, etc. It is also the first government to propose a solution to burn waste with the help of bio-decomposers.

Above all, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) praised the efforts of Rotary Club volunteers and university staff, emphasizing the need to maintain the saplings after planting.

In conclusion, he also called on students and volunteers to carry out similar activities in different locations in the capital to “create a green, healthy and pollution-free environment for the citizens of Delhi.”
