Sikkim recorded 147 new covid cases and 0 New Death

Sikkim registered 147 new Covid cases on Wednesday. The recovered number stand is 15307 Positivity rate 13.4% Recovery rate 81.3% as per health department.

The district-wise figure is 85 cases recorded in the east district, 16 cases recorded in the west district, 46 in the south district, and 00 cases in the north district. And of test done is 1096. The total Covid active case in the state is 2965, as per the health department, Government of Sikkim.

Today, Department said that 01 Covid death were reported. The Covid deaths toll since last year is 285.

As the second Covid-19 wave and rain continue to rip across the state Sikkim, two constituencies that don’t have a ruling MLA have gained prominence for helping people be it Corona Positive or landslide or difficult times.

Just a few days ago when the landslide alerted in lower Lingi there was some threat, the house needed to evaluate immediately Mr. Bikash Basnet got this news and he started monitoring immediately and asked his task force team to get to connect with SDM without any fail.

By Yesterday, eight houses were issued with immediate evacuation notice by the SDM to avoid further mishaps, concerning their shelter the department also provided Tarpaulin to them and to build their temporary houses Mr. Om Prakash Thapa has taken his personal initiative.

This all was monitored by the Taskforce of Yangyang lead by Bikash Basnet who is also the confidential secretary of Chief Minister PS Golay.

Though no ruling party MLA exists in Yangyang, Bikash Basnet even helps citizen’s applications to reach out to the chief minister get it signed and even bring it back an application to the person.

Speaking to The Sikkim Today, Bikash Basnet said, “After the Second wave started this year, under the guidance and instruction of HCM PS Golay – the SKM youth, CLC, Iyangyang Incharge and all members of Rangrang-Yangyang has started to help people from this difficult related issues. I am not alone in this, we are with lots of members who are working in the ground to the ground.”

Along with his member team, has been swiftly responding to SOS messages from across the constituency, arrange ration and food for the needy, medicine, shelter, and even helping elders get vaccinated.

The same goes for the Ravangla constituency where MLA from the ruling party doesn’t exist so SKM CLC president Bishnu Sharma is doing all possibilities he can, Ravangla is one of the most rural places in Sikkim which would have more hard in a difficult time. Anyway CLC and Area Incharge has connected with everyone like Healthcare people, Offical, and everyone.

“This is difficult times and for us, humanitarian work is primary, politics comes later,” said Bishnu Sharma CLC President.

Sikkim Medical Board Chairman Dichen Bhutia said, “Then in the first week of May this year, along with Bishnu Sharma and Kesangla Lashungpa, we held series of meetings to discuss how to tackle this difficult problem in Ravangla. Our first priority was to help the people in need of emergency medicines, food, shelter, and finance. We set up control rooms in our constituencies to receive SOS messages on WhatsApp.”

The main control room for their work is in the Ravangla party office, which coordinates with all state SKM party control rooms which are also monitoring by HCM.

Both Ravangla and Yangyang are doing best compared to other constituencies in the term of communication with peoples, they are sure citizen are okay in a difficult time.

Reacting to this, Bikash Basnet said, “For us, the life of a person is important and not who is the person. Our culture taught us ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’ and citizens are our family. So when we received a distress call, we immediately reached to help them no matter where we are no matter how busy we are.”

Sikkim students to get more MBBS seats in SMIMS

Education minister Shri Kunga Nima Lepcha informed that Sikkim has now signed an agreement with Sikkim Manipal Institue of Medical Science.

The State government of Sikkim will pay Rs 4 crore and 50 lac for this program where 50 fully free and 30 full payment MBBS seats will be given in SMIMS.

According to Honorable Chief Minister , they are committed to providing :

i) access to free medical education to everyone.
ii) home availability of 80 seats annually for the young aspirants of Sikkim according to this agreement between the Government and Manipal University .
iii) quality education at the doorstep for those who can afford to pay.

Education was also taken up . Decision has been taken to restart university in Jorethang, South Sikkim whereas old banned university EILLM will be renamed.

Season bills for the establishment of three private universities in Sikkim were placed in Assembly yesterday. These are to be taken up for discussion today.

-“Sikkim International University” sponsored by the Research and Gyan for Noble Upliftment Trust at Sreebadam in West Sikkim to provide high quality education supplemented with industrial internship and professional training in the state.

  • -The revival of Eastern Institute for Integrated Learning in Management (EIILM) University is to be undertaken by changing the name of the University to Sikkim Alpine University . AMOGH Advanced Education and Research Foundation to get sponsorship for the same replacing Malavika Foundation.

Sikkim recorded 209 new covid cases and 03 New Deaths

Sikkim registered 209 new Covid cases on Saturday. The recovered number stand is 14887 Positivity rate 12.7% Recovery rate 79.7% as per health department.

The district-wise figure is 83 cases recorded in the east district, 51 cases recorded in the west district, 72 in the south district, and 03 cases in the north district. And of test done is 1643. The total Covid active case in the state is 3239, as per the health department, Government of Sikkim.

Today, Department said that 03 Covid deaths were reported. The Covid deaths toll since last year is 284.

Also, the total cases to date stand at 18659.

Sikkim to get Sikkim House in Mumbai, relief for medical visitors

On 31st January 2021, the Honourable CM of Sikkim PS Golay has announced Sikkim will have a Sikkim house in Mumbai soon.

Speaking with The Sikkim Today team in January 2021 in West Sikkim, Chief Minister PS Golay has approached Maharashtra Government for the construction of a Sikkim house in Navi, Mumbai on which the Maharastra govt agrees to accept this.

This house will be 6 km from the nearest airport and 2 km from Tata memorial hospital which be will easy for Sikkimese patients to get connected nearby.

Earlier lots of people from Sikkim who used to go to Mumbai for treatment but can’t find a reasonable place to stay and the Chief minister thought this Sikkim house will be accessible for those who are going to Mumbai for medical treatment.

Yesterday in Sikkim legislative assembly, Honourable Chief minister said ” Maharashtra government has approved our proposal to construct Sikkim House Navi Mumbai near the Tata Memorial Hospital which is one of the top hospitals in the country”

Land measuring 4000 square meter which is almost 1 acre has been allotted for which Rs 11 crore 97 lakhs has already been paid and taken in possession, said HCM in the Assembly.

This will ease the financial burden on our people travelling to Mumbai for treatment and also assist them in other matters,” Chief Minister P.S. Golay in his Budget speech on Monday.

Earlier, the patient from Sikkim used to stay in Hamro Chhahari which was launched years back by the Nepali community from overall which cost only 300/per day Room. But getting a room in Hamro Chhahari is also very difficult for many patients.

On Sunday, Department said that 00 Covid death were reported. The Covid deaths toll since last year is 281.

Bhaichung Bhutia’s effigy burning case, 9 Arrested

Nine women were arrested by Namchi Police today morning in a case related to burning Bhaichung Bhutia’s effigy in Namchi on 9 June 2021.

Last day, Former Indian football captain Bhaichung Bhutia made a statement against 300 bedded hospital which was recently laid the foundation by the Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri Prem Singh Golay. Whereas, Bhaichung’s statement create protests in Namchi Bazar which was lead by south women morcha.

Speaking to The Sikkim Today Namchi Police Prabin Gurung south DIG told, nine women were arrested under violating the disaster management act.

And the case has been registered against them by District Collector in Namchi Police Station under case number 18/2021 under section 188/34 IPC, read with section 51 of Disaster Management Act 2005 for the violation of the law.

In protest, there were 19 women involved out of which nine were arrested by The Sikkim Police today morning and investigation is still going on.

The district-wise figure is 77 cases recorded in the east district, 37 cases recorded in the west district, 43 in the south district, and 01 cases in the north district. The total Covid active case in the state is 3553, as per the health department, Government of Sikkim.

Mirabai Chanu of Manipur qualifies for Tokyo Olympics

Mirabai Chanu an Indian weightlifter who held from Northeast’s Manipur has qualified for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics. She would be competing in the 49 kg category on Weightlifting.

26-year-old Mirabai Chanu held from Manipur is a three-time gold medalist. She won the bronze medal during the Asian Championship in Tashkent this April 2021. She has qualified, based on her IWF’s Absolute Ranking list, where she is ranked second in the 49kg category.

This will be Chanu’s Second time in Olympics, she has also participated in the 2016 Rio D Janeiro Olympics but failed to make it, where she completed in 6th while failing to lift in any attempt in Clean & Jerk.

Drug busted at Rangpo, 1 person held

In a major crackdown against the drug trade, a team led by Rangpo Police busted one person who was carrying the drug in a heavy light vehicle.

According to Rangpo Police sources, One Tata bearing Registration No. SK01D 0784 driven by alleged Prabin Chettri of Pakyong East Sikkim. Police found a box while searching in a vehicle. As soon as the police found the box, they found 65 bottles of Ownrex cough syrup, 328 capsules of N-10, and 08 tablets of N-10 were seized by police on the spot.

A crackdown was launched soon after and truck drivers were apprehended on Sunday morning. This all happened during routine vehicle checking near the Sikkim Westbengal border, the behavior of occupants was found to be suspicious.

A case under SADA and NDPS was registered against Prabin Chettri.
